Hear me out...yeah he's older that you'd like, yeah he's made some questionable moral and ethical decisions in the past (haven't we all?), yeah he has funny accent...but dude wins!
As a Gen X'er growing up loving hoops and SportsIllustrated magazine arriving to my Boerne P.O. box every thursday, Pitino and Billy Dovovan were some of my early hoops heroes! The 3-point line had just be allowed in NCAA and this whipper snapper nattily dressed coach with a NYC accent and this skinny pasty white kid was taking March Madness by storm.
Dude just wins...Providence, Kentucky, L'ville, Iona, St. John's....remind me the last time that St. John's was good....and don't say Lou and his Cosby sweaters bc that was barely good.
He would bring instant excitement to this program. He would be credibility that CDC and Texas truly wants a winning program on the 40...Don't care how long he stays (3-5 years? FINE)...don't care what he costs.
CDC can roll the dice on retreads or young up-and-comer or who has had semi-success at smaller DI or DII programs...but if Texas truly wants to play with the Big Boys...they need a coach who can go into a room and command it. They need a coach who can say "look at what I've developed and programs I've made relevant again...with your help, young fella, that's what will happen quickly at Texas....oh and here's a big bag of NIL money to boot"
You know the fans would love it...he'd show up in a $5,000 suit and tie (not this laissez faire garb most wear today) and won't take shit from any other program or agent or parent or anything....
Previous post about "The worst 5-star in recent memory for Horns" and the list is a lot longer that we like...maybe that's bc Horns are getting the bottom of the 5-stars or the ones that the Big Boys have passed over bc they know they suck (Yeah Greg Brown, Mitchell, Bamba, etc...talking about you guys"...so go and get a bunch of 5-star kids and see which one rises and which one sinks
Okay Nay Sayers....knock all you want but I also was on record way before Sark was even mentioned as a possible candidate saying CDC should go after him...so I'm saying that CDC needs to back up the Brinks and let's mix a little Texas Twang in that Yankee's accent and see some excitement for men's hoops back on the 40
