It's over and here's why...

I'd fire him tomorrow and appoint Gilbert interim coach. This season is a loss anyway. Firing him now would let future recruits know the program is going in a different direction. It's better to have them jump ship in October rather than January. Gilbert could breathe some fire into the program, who knows? He certainly couldn't do any worse than what Strong is doing. Look what Ed Orgeron is doing at LSU. They look like a totally different program. I'm just tired of all the excuses. "The kids are still young", "you can't become a winner in only 3 years" that's a load of bullshit. I've got a brilliant idea, sent Charlie out on a rail and send John Bonney with him please!

The bad thing about that. If you fire Strong but keep the staff intact. What the hell you do about the D because Bedford will still be there. Even the Offense has look blah lately

Yes it's a predicament, but if they have no intention of retaining him...then why wait?

If you fire Charlie, I'm assuming there is a buyout that would have to be paid as well? Would it make more sense for the ADMIN to let him play his contract out without extension.?

If you are going to troll at lease do it well. This one was just stupid and deserves to get you banned.

I'm assuming you're being sarcastic? I don't know what Strong's buyout is if he is fired prior to the end of his contract. He has one more year on his existing contract, it may make more economical sense to let him finish his contract out, without further extension. Not sure how that's a ban-able sentiment.

See now you are still trying to play the fool, or maybe it isn't a a game, you really are that stupid.

Repeat after me, there isn't an amount of money Texas couldn't pay.

Well you are just making that assumption and nobody said Texas COULDN'T pay that amount but are they willing to after buying out Mack's contract and if the higher ups can't hire the guy they really want? You don't want to fire him just to hire another hopeful. Keep your insults to yourself, good grief we are talking about an ADMIN that paid Charlie 5 mil to start with so perhaps your aggression should be directed elsewhere.

He signed a $5 million/year contract for 5 years with guaranteed raises of $100k each year. 2 years left = $10 million, plus the annual raises ($5.4 + $5.5 million = $10.9 million).

Thanks I was thinking it was a 4 year contract. 5 years throws a little wrench into things. Obviously Texas could afford to buy him out if they so choose.

Does it hurt to talk out of both sides of your mouth?

Seriously? How can 5 year contract throw a wrench into things while you also admit Texas can afford to buy him out?

I'm starting to think you aren't playing, you really are a fool.

What is your deal? Seriously? Thinking his contract was 4 years I suggested that letting him play his contract out may be the best thing to do financially, especially if Texas couldn't get the coach they really want. After learning it's a 5 year contract, then obviously you don't want to endure 2 more years of the status quo. Nobody but you tried to say that I was implying Texas couldn't afford to buy his contract at anytime if they chose. I think maybe you need to think about what you are saying before you post instead of lecturing others.

Lets get a ruling by other posters, anyone else read this dialog and come away thinking bell is trying to play the fool?

This is an utter and complete mess..... This is not going to end well. The devastation left by Dodds and co. is going to take years to fix.... Maybe as long as it takes the GOR to expire. I don't know if we will have much of a program around at that point. I have decided to cut the cable and save the $$$. The only reason I had cable was for Longhorn games. It certainly wasn't so that I could watch Herbstreit. Radio is sufficient going forward, at least I am not wasting $ on this anymore.

It's over for Strong. Period. Just a question. What if Strong wins the last 5 games and the bowl game. Does he get a opportunity to stay or still get the axe. I would say axe but it depends on how bad he beats the other teams.

As improbable as that sounds, yes if we finish 9-4 Strong definitely will be back. Think back to 2013. While booster are taking to Saban, Mack keeps racking up ugly wins. We were 7-2 at one point and if we beat Baylor the last game, we're Big12 champs and Mack is still here.

Texas can afford the best coaches in the country. No more political/token hires.
i don't think charlie was a political/ token hire. he did a good job at louisville and is still the only sec coordinator to figure out spread defenses. it didn't look like a reach at the time. it hasn't worked out. sometimes that happens. it didn't work out with david mcwilliams either (now THAT was a hire that should never have been considered, but why dwell on that).
