As you all are aware, Texas put an offer on the table for Highland Park offensive lineman Jack Leyrer a few weeks ago, and Leyrer was immediately intrigued. Two weekends ago, Leyrer came down to Austin to tour the campus and to spend some time with former HP teammates Prince Dorbah and Paxton Anderson.
Leyrer has played things very close to the vest when I've talked to him, listing six or seven schools that he's still strongly considering. I still don't have a great feel for this one, but one person I communicated with today feels it's mostly a Texas/Stanford battle with USC a distant third. I tend to agree with this person's thinking that Texas might have a slight edge due to proximity, connections to the school, etc. But you can never discount a Stanford offer with a player like Leyrer who really values education.
I'm hearing a decision could go down sometime this week. Again, tough one to call and it sounds like it's very close coming down the stretch.
