The Texas Longhorns are in a great position, getting ready for a quarterfinal matchup against the Arizona State Sun Devils next week in the College Football Playoff.
Things are great on the field, but off of the field, the Longhorns lost a talented player to the transfer portal earlier this year. Former 5-star wide receiver Johntay Cook announced in the middle of the season that he would be leaving Texas and searching for a new team.
Cook, the former No. 4 WR and No. 31 overall player in the 2023 class, hasn't made his transfer to a new team official yet, but there are predictions being logged for him to end up with the Florida Gators.
After those predictions came out, many fans on social media wondered how a move to Florida would be any more beneficial for Cook than Texas, seeing as both schools have loaded WR rooms with a lot of competition.
This is where Cook fired back, taking a shot at Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns coaching staff for some apparent foul play relating to his playing time.
According to Cook, skill had nothing to do with why he wasn't seeing the field very much during his time with the Longhorns.
In his two seasons at Texas, Cook played in 20 games, catching 16 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns. After playing in a few games at the start of the 2024 season, Cook fell out of the rotation for the Longhorns and eventually announced his intentions to transfer a couple of months ago.
Now the expectation is that he will land with the Gators and play for Billy Napier down in The Swamp. We will see if he is able to find a bigger role in that offense if he does end up there.
