Joe Rogan's recent guest, Navy Seal, Marcus Luttrell, shed more light on his gruesome experience, upbringing, the making of the movie, and adjusting to civilian life. The podcast and his story are incredibly inspiring, to say the least. I wish Rogan would dump spotify cuz the format sucks taliban balls, but here are some highlights.

I don’t understand, how does the format suck?
I didn’t listen to a ton of his stuff preSpotify. What is so different about it now?

Spotify has a very bad video player, has ads even if you have premium, and in general the UI sucks cause it was never designed for a primarily video formatted piece of media as opposed to audio. Also Rogans studio is a toaster and very ugly and off putting. Rogan is losing his test rapidly from the TRT abuse catching up with him

Luttrell is a bad mamma jamma - glad he’s on our side.

I would be curious though to hear if anyone on the board knows Luttrell or knows people that know him and his brother when they were younger? I heard a story that in high school, he was essentially the worst bully around, would pick fights and beat the ever living shit out of you for no good reason. Essentially, not a sheep dog, but rather a wolf. No clue if it’s true however.

Also - Spotify gave him a 100 M - he’s not dropping them 😃 and you wouldn’t either

Ok so when you say format change your referring to the video play and your frustration isn’t with the actual format of the interviews.

I just listen to them and don’t watch so I wasn't tracking what you meant by format change since I thought you were referring to how Joe was conducting his interviews.

Were his shows only on YouTube prior to Spotify or some other platform?

He had everything on YouTube which people liked because most of his fans could interact in the comment section. That doesn’t exist with Spotify

I knew him, his brothers and their friends in HS. I lived in a neighboring town and while I haven't seen them in 20 years...we'd know each other.

Not a fan, not a hater, but I wouldn't take anything you heard about anyone growing up in Willis, TX in the 90s to be worth drawing any conclusions as to their character as adults.

I've listened to Rogan pretty religiously for years. Spotify does suck. Often its difficult to get the feed running and I know others that have given up and don't even listen anymore. Commercials? Meh, don't care.

I have a good friend who knew him at Sam Houston. About 10 years ago when the book came out and Luttrell was becoming a celebrity, Marcus’ name came up in conversation one day and my friend was trashing him about some fight Luttrell’s crew started back in college. Bar fight that spilled over to frat house. I’m sure Luttrell’s guys got upper hand. We gave our friend shit about and still do. Don’t get me wrong he knows ML is heroic, but he still had that grudge and that funny college story.

I’m sure ML was a redneck badass back in the day, but that upbringing likely saved him.

I have the same question, why does the format suck? I think it’s fine.

Spotify is fixing all these issues; comments are coming; stay patient, they’re investing in the tech and it will far outperform all the others and all be in the same place. Level 1.

Pretty sure the new studio is on JRE.

I too have listened to JRE for 4-5 years now. Is it just me, or does it seem like the guests have gotten a lot less interesting since the Spotify switch? I'm sure Covid has been a part of it, and maybe now being in Austin, it's a little harder to get guests to travel there. But I have found myself struggling to find interviews worth listening to.

FYI - I don't listen to the MMA shows or hardly any of the comedian shows. It's that 3rd bucket of random, interesting guests which seems to have gotten more sparse.

I can’t stream Spotify video on my iPhone, IPad, or AppleTV. The only video I can watch are the snippets played on YouTube. That’s only about 20% of the show. Rogan has a visual component to the show where he discusses video or photos. Not having the video streaming component prepared prior to Spotify launching JRE has been a huge black eye for them.

Good to know. UI on the android app is brutal. Especially when I've got it plugged in to my truck

Wouldn't be surprised. The military has helped many people straighten themselves out. It's part of growing up. I wouldn't be where I am today without it.

What ML did serving his country cannot be overlooked and stands in its own.

People aren’t perfect. I did lots of stuff growing up I wish I hadn’t and I know I haven’t gone back to apologize to all the people I was a shit to back in the day.

“Stay Patient” investing in tech gimme a break. It’s freaking a comment section the fact they are 6 months in to Rogans 100 mill deal and it hasn’t been done yet is embarrassing. Plus Spotify also lied about censoring out certain episodes they don’t like so the company has no credibility

Austin would seem to be easier to travel to, all things considered. It is in the middle of the country vs one of the coast. Sure, probably have to connect at least once, but most people don't live near a hub and have to do the same thing to get anywhere. At least Austin is shaving 2 hours of flight time off for most folks.....

Been close to Marcus and Morgan for 25 years. They were never once bullies in college. However, you didn’t mess with any of their buddies or fraternity brothers. Those 4/5 years they were in Huntsville, you didn’t want to start anything with any Delts. Lol.

The guide that hunted me and @sendero95 for mule deer this past season hunted JR on the Tejon Ranch in California a few years back. He got a good one.

He said that JR was cool as shit.

The only issue I’ve had is the ads. I used to be able to fly through them, haven’t figured out how to do that yet.

Maybe it's a generational thing, but I do not understand why people view Luttrell as a hero. In my view he's responsible for the deaths of his team and the team sent to rescue them. The team view was to kill those they stumbled on to, bury them and get the hell out of Dodge. Luttrell, with PC logic, argued against that. Everyone died, but him. That would not have happened in my day (Vietnam) or at any time in any country's military history. He's not a hero to me.

I used to watch pretty religiously prior to spotify. Was just so easy to pull up the interview on Youtube. I've probably only listened to half dozen or so since the switch.

Did they ever confirm he made the call and he alone? I thought the team came to that decision together but I could be wrong I haven’t read what happened in that mission in a long time.
