Some quick-hitter updates from today’s Texas Junior Day. We’ll have more detailed reports in the coming days, but here are some highlights …

Zachary Evans – Said the visit went really well, and the highlight was probably breaking down his film and UT film with Stan Drayton. In maybe the most interesting note if the day, Evans had said recently that Texas and Alabama were two schools that were standing out. Texas made a move today.

“Texas has definitely separated itself,” Evans said.

Evans plans to release a list of favorites later in the summer. He’ll visit Georgia next.

De'Gabriel Floyd – The Rivals100 LB out of Westlake Village (CA) may have been the most interesting interview for my money. Floyd really seemed to light up when talking about Texas and I get the feeling the Longhorns are at or near the top at this early stage.

“They’re real high. I can’t even describe it,” Floyd said.

He has family in Austin and said he just felt really comfortable on the visit, at home. He was on campus yesterday and plans to come back tomorrow. Tonight, he’ll be hanging out with true freshman linebacker Dele Adeoye.

“I’ve got my top schools in mind, but I’m just waiting to make sure I solidify the list. But Texas is up there,” Floyd said.

He plans to take his time before making a decision so this one will go on for a while, but Texas made a very strong impression. He’s been to Austin a few times but had never visited Texas before this weekend. He’ll probably hit USC and UCLA this spring and maybe Oregon.

DeMarvin Leal – The Converse Judson defensive lineman was sporting a UT shirt, so that has to be a good sign. Roschon Johnson spent some time recruiting Leal today. He said he really connected with the coaches and could tell they love their student athletes. He also spent some time talking to guys like B.J. Foster and Caden Sterns.

Leal is in the process of setting up some official visits. He may take some in the spring and doesn’t have any places locked in that he wants to see.

Texas wants him to come in as DE.

“It really did help Texas,” Leal said of today’s visit.

Roschon Johnson – Not a lot new to report with Johnson from what we wrote about on Friday. It was a good visit today and he’s still very happy with his commitment. He spent some time today recruiting guys like DeMarvin Leal and LB De’Gabriel Floyd.

Marcel Brooks – This visit was better than any Texas visit he’s had. Really nice visit overall, mostly talked to Todd Orlando. He basically said not to read too much into any lists you see from him because he likes to keep people guessing. That’s why he changes things up a lot, but he admitted that the fact that he visited Texas is a pretty good sign of his feelings towards Texas. He’ll visit Alabama next week.

Marcus Stripling – The Houston Mayde Creek product said he’ll be going to Florida pretty soon and possibly Alabama and Oregon. He also plans to get back to Austin pretty soon.

Stripling said he’s open but said today helped Texas.

“Of course. Every time I come visit, it becomes better and better,” Stripling said.

Stacey Wilkins – Texas offered the Camden (AR) Fairview product during today’s visit and he said it went really well.

Wilkins said he likes coach Herman’s visit and he raved about Herb Hand, labeling him as the top OL coach in the country. Texas is one of his top schools overall along with Arkansas, OU and TCU. He’ll visit Arkansas next week.

Marques Caldwell – The Alvin DB is committed to Oregon but still exploring options to see if there’s anywhere else he can see himself at. Wants to visit Oklahoma State, TCU, A&M and a couple others.

He speaks with UT cornerback coach Jason Washington quite a bit. Washington said he wants to offer him but the staff needs to talk it over first. If Texas offers, it would be very high on his list, Caldwell said.

Peter Mpagi – The George Ranch defensive end said the highlight was learning the Texas defense and building a stronger relationship with Oscar Giles. Texas is recruiting him as a b-backer and as he develops he’d move to defensive end.

Giles told him he’d talk to him early in the week about a possible scholarship offer. If Texas offers, they’d be number one.

Carl Williams – Not a lot of earth-shattering news with the Lufkin standout. The coaches didn’t talk to him about an offer, but did tell him they want to take five d-linemen in next year’s class so they’re still evaluating defensive line options.

Gilbert Ibeneme – Texas talked to him about playing a number of positions on defense (edge rusher, DE). Texas told him and the other d-linemen that they’re taking five defensive linemen in the 2019 class. If Texas was to offer, they’d for sure be in the top five. OU, TCU, Texas Tech are some other schools standing out.

Logan Compton – The IMG Academy said it was a really good visit and Texas stressed to him that the offense uses a tight end nearly every play. Enjoyed the food and the locker room. Texas didn’t talk to him much about tight end numbers, just said depending on a guy’s athletic ability will determine how he’ll be used. Compton feels he can do a little bit of everything as a tight end.

Shemar Pearl – The Plano West product said it was a good visit, including seeing the campus and talking to Oscar Giles. Texas is recruiting him as a versatile LB/DE role. The staff told him they’re still evaluating him in terms of a possible offer, but they’ll stay in touch. If Texas offers, he said it would mean a lot. No schools really standing out … taking things slowly.

Dylan Wright – The Rivals250 wide receiver was inside with the coaches for a while so I didn’t get to talk to him (I’ll follow up with him soon) but he tweeted that things went very well.

Baylor Cupp – Texas offered the rising Brock tight end. I’ll try to catch up with him tomorrow to get his thoughts.

- Reminder, more big visitors expected tomorrow, including WR Garrett Wilson, DB Marcus Banks, DB Erick Young, OL Javonne Shepherd, OL Tyler Johnson and DB Demani Richardson.
