Steve Martin, the standup version, is top 5, without a doubt. Not taking points away because he is talented enough to do more than just standup. Sorry. The living and breathing part is irrelevant.

Like I said, I don't pay attention to anything he says outside of the UFC.I don’t follow him or his politics but he is really plugged in with the comedy community over the last 3 decades. It isn’t just him and a couple of random dudes on his show. I was surprised at the amount of confirmation.
…… and I am not doing anymore homework today.
agree to disagree.Steve Martin, the standup version, is top 5, without a doubt. Not taking points away because he is talented enough to do more than just standup. Sorry.
I wish I had some of that cash back that I spent at comedy clubs some days. Others I would have gladly doubled down. Admittedly, that was dependent on my company as much as the show…I also have seen a LOT of stand up.
Ok so you didn’t look at them. Cool. I see the votes are still coming in for Steve and you are deflecting. Not in top 10 discussions. You did find a link that had him at 9.
Most have him in the top 25-30.
Let's see your top 10!I wish I had some of that cash back that I spent at comedy clubs some days. Others I would have gladly doubled down. Admittedly, that was dependent on my company as much as the show…
The more I think about it, the more I hate the thought of trying to compile a top 10 of comedians. It hurts my brain just dabbling in the order and cutoff! I agree Steve Martin isn’t top 10. He was lightning in a bottle. One of the funniest and witty humans on the planet. His movies are some of my favorites. He is just not a top 10 stand up IMO. Robin Williams is in that category with me.
At the end of the day laughter is good for people. Wherever you can find that laughter, enjoy it!
No, I look at the list. Rolling Stone has him at 11.. just like I said.Ok so you didn’t look at them. Cool. I see the votes are still coming in for Steve and you are deflecting.
They all had him in the top 10 but one who had him at 11 on a top 50.
All in good fun. I didn’t think the latest Bill Burr was as good as some of his other stuff and I am still pissed at Louis CK for being a perv. He is incredible live. Will actually be back in Austin soon.
I got to see Bill Hicks live multiple times in Austin. He is probably the best live show I have ever seen.
So, there are no links anywhere about this?
His knowledge and expertise regarding the comedy community is more expansive than UFC. He has skins on the wall and the comedy scene in Austin is basically unmatched because he put up the financing to make it happen. I like Robin Williams and think he is very talented.Like I said, I don't pay attention to anything he says outside of the UFC.
It’s all subjective which is why I said “all in good fun”.No, I look at the list. Rolling Stone has him at 11.. just like I said.
I have no desire to really debate it. It's wildly subjective. Not having him in the top 10 is not a hot take.
and I am still pissed at Louis CK for being a perv. He is incredible live. Will actually be back in Austin soon.
He’s coming back! Hopefully he can keep it in his pants…When he was going through his public rehabilitation a couple of years back, I saw him at the Creek and the Cave on 7th St. Intimate setting and pretty cool to see one of the all time greats up close. Had this great bit about Hitler being this kindly old man in hell welcoming all the newbies.
He’ll be at the Moody in September, so not at all the same.
Thanks for the link.![]()
Robin Williams Stopped Going to Comedy Clubs to Avoid Stealing Jokes
One comic threw Williams against a wall and demanded $300 for jokes renderedwww.cracked.com
Kudos to you for being able to make a list. That’s what I was saying, I couldn’t even get through even deciding the criteria. Is it just stage stand up? Funniest humans on film? Most accomplished/successful? At the end of the day, all we can really do is pick the people that best entertained us or acknowledge those with the best accomplishments or careers. Everyone’s list will be different.Let's see your top 10!
The problem with being a constant spewer of lies and misinformation is that you lose credability everywhere. His knowledge and expertise regarding the comedy community is more expansive than UFC. The prosecution rests.
I know, I was just messing with you.Kudos to you for being able to make a list. That’s what I was saying, I couldn’t even get through even deciding the criteria. Is it just stage stand up? By the way, one of the best, most polished, funniest I saw live was Ellen DeGeneres. I doubt I would like her as a person knowing what was revealed about her but her comedy show was on point. Things like that make it hard to categorize because there is nothing like live! I would end up with several lists. One for best live stand up I have seen. One for best recorded special. One for best comedian in stage and movies.
Thanks @TexasRads1 appreciate that!with all the new content, are there plans for added staff?
I think @CodyCarpentier in particular has been a great new addition, he’s added a different kind of perspective to the site 💯
YMMV, a Bill Hicks or Norm set is about as intelligent as anyone. I knew Bill a little bit during my time at UT, so that may reveal some bias.I find that to be crazy talk. Show me a set that either of those two did that ever got a crowd reacting the way the crowd at. the Bernie Mack show reacted.
My top 10 stage comedians:Let's see your top 10!
Thanks @TexasRads1 appreciate that!
It worked. I put my ADD aside and listed one. I included a non-mainstream name that has been around for years and is one of the most consistently funny comics I have seen.I know, I was just messing with you.![]()
... The SEC got in 14 freaking teams. It's good to be in the cool kids’ club.
They’ve significantly improved the last 10 years. I said it years ago that eventually SEC schools would get bored with winning football every year and start pouring in money to their hoops programs. And that has proven prophetic. I will say the one head scratcher has been UGA. Why they haven’t been worth a shit for decades much less the last 10 years of the SEC hoops rising is puzzling. UGA should be STOUT in hoops.
I was going to try to make a real comment about this and realized I could get banned if people blew up and took it out of my intended contextThe problem with being a constant spewer of lies and misinformation is that you lose credability everywhere.
Robin Williams always made me laugh out loud.
Small, odd story. I work with Elvis impersonators, and every year Sam Kinison’s brother hosts the gospel jam. He is an amazing speaker, talks about his brother, and was also the choice to govern Robin William’s eulogy and to preside over the ceremony. Not too relevant, but interesting to me nonetheless.exactly
we all have bias towards our favorites.YMMV, a Bill Hicks or Norm set is about as intelligent as anyone. I knew Bill a little bit during my time at UT, so that may reveal some bias.
Dice Man?My top 10 stage comedians:
Dave Chappelle
Richard Pryor
Eddie Murphy
George Carlin
Chris Rock
Andrew Dice Clay
Jeff Allen
Jerry Seinfeld
Bill Burr
Bill Cosby (yes, he turned out to be a POS but was one of the masters on stage).
I can’t even start to rank them. I’m still brain cramped on others not on the list. Had to just go with the ones that made me laugh the most that I have seen live or on specials. Extra points to the recorded specials because it is harder to earn laughs that way than in a live setting.
I’ve been so far out ahead of the board on SEC it’s not even funny. From 2 years ago
And that was a good couple of years after I first mentioned SEC hoops. It really was inevitable.
Nothing you could say would change the factual truth of my comments, but thank you for your restraint.I was going to try to make a real comment about this and realized I could get banned if people blew up and took it out of my intended context
If they don't know, how would I know? Can you explain the mashed up org chart at Oklahoma with a new “Chair of Football and Special Advisor” (who works for free) who will oversee the new general manager and the football coach. The general manager who when interviewed wouldn’t directly answer the question of whether he reports to the football coach. Sounds like it goes AD-Special Advisor-maybe GM-maybe head coach. If it’s that murky it will fail. From personal experience lack of clear lines of authority kills cohesion and ability to achieve acceptable outcomes. What you get is everybody is responsible for everything and nobody is responsible for anything.
what a listhe made me laugh plenty, but, his improv style has never been a favorite
How about a "Died Too Damn Young" list...
- Bernie Mac
- Bill Hicks
- Lenny Bruce
- Sam Kinison
- Greg Giraldo
- Patrice O'Neal
- Mitch Hedberg
- Robin Harris
- Andy Kaufman
- Freddie Prinze
.
George had no lines.Circa 2002 or 2003 me and my girlfriend (soon to become finance) are in Las Vegas where our parents are meeting for the first time.
My dad wanted to see George Carlin. So all 6 of us go.
He comes on stage and the first words out of his mouth is “Let’s talk pu$$y farts”. And spent 10 minutes talking about them. Awkward at first but we were all in tears a few minutes in.
Fascinating. I had no idea.Small, odd story. I work with Elvis impersonators, and every year Sam Kinison’s brother hosts the gospel jam. He is an amazing speaker, talks about his brother, and was also the choice to govern Robin William’s eulogy and to preside over the ceremony. Not too relevant, but interesting to me nonetheless.
