Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (This is personal...)

You know Ketch- I’ve been with you from close to the beginning of the site and whatever changes/additions /deletions you make are fine with me- Like an old married couple, we may get chippy with each other on major disagreements like how on earth you could omit “Lose Again” from the top 10 Linda Ronstadt songs,” Blue Letter” from Fleetwood Mac or “lI’m Looking Through You” doesn’t make the Beatles cut- MAJOR MAJOR disagreements but the value of this site and the back and forth - even the disagreements between those on the site are 99% entertainment and thought provoking. These almost always seem to weave us closer together rather than tearing us apart- (At least that’s what I’ve found since self imposing my own Corral ban )…and like that old couple I’ve just learned to trust you in the grand scheme and you’ve never failed to deliver. You may not know this personally as much as other brothers and sisters on the site, but on the Friday before the 2006 Texas OU game my 18 YO daughter died in a car wreck in East Texas- not all that far from where Cole Pittman’s accident took place and the members of this site had a great deal to do in hand holding me through the emotional debris that it left behind- I was also touched by how much you and the staff put into the sexual abuse scandal at Baylor while protecting the identities of the innocent above and beyond all. I’ve been able to develop friendships out of all the disagreements , even the political ones where my fellow combatants disagree fervently with one another but we always have very good sidebar conversations and hope for one another’s happiness and good fortune

So these among other factors are why I trust you to make the decisions best for the site and best for all of us knowing that perfection is a laudable goal never achieved but you sure manage to make it dang close and for that I will always remain grateful

Great TTFTW as usual.

Find the new additions to the lineup intriguing.
1.) Everything Everywhere... Super concept, but can be depressing. I have to remind myself that Texas recruiting now begins in the summer.
2.) Behind Enemy Lines is sometimes hard to follow for me.🤷🏼‍♀️
3.) Back in the Day--looking forward to the peaks behind-the scenes. Always love when "Uncle Ketch" decides to tell a story.
4.) Truth or Lies is a great addition. Have always loved the fact that OB doesn't blow smoke in our faces and will tell the truth no matter how hard it might be to take.

Hoping some of the current articles will continue. One of my favorites is Just a Bit Outside.

Thanks for all you do for the OB community.

Oh, my gosh, @RTR. I did not know about your daughter until now. I'm so, so sorry to hear this.

Prayers for you and your family.

Blessings and love,

No. 10 - Top 10 Standup Comedians

I'm sure this one is going to cause some disagreements because nothing is more subjective than comedy.

I don't have any women in my Top 10. Sorry, Joan Rivers. Sorry, Sarah Silverman. Sorry, Wanda Sykes.

I've left out a lot of old timers. Sorry, Don Rickles. Sorry, Jonathan Winters. Sorry, Bill Cosby (not sorry, **** him).

I've left out a lot of weird. Sorry, Steven Wright. Sorry, Andy Kaufman.

You like who you like. I make no apologies. Let's get on with it.

10. Norm McDonald

I was lucky enough to see McDonald in person a couple of times over the years. He always delivered.

9. Bill Burr

This might feel too high for some, but he's really put a sensational run together.

8. Redd Foxx

I used to love listening to my Foxx tapes on cassette when I was 10 years old. It felt so raw and dirty.

7. Bernie Mac

Nothing was quite like Bernie Mac doing Def Comedy Jam. It might be the most electric set of all-time.

6. Chris Rock

An oversight on my part that has been corrected. Not originally in the Top 10... I made a mistake and corrected it.

5. Dave Chappelle

Is this too low?

4. Robin Williams

This was the comedy of my youth. It was always Miller Time.

3. Eddie Murphy

He didn't do a lot of stand up, but Delirious and Raw might be my two favorite comedy specials of all-time.

2. Richard Pryor

I know some will say he should be No. 1, but ...

1. George Carlin

Carlin has stood the test of time. He's more important today than he was three decades ago.
Soooo many greats - tough ranking to choose to do! Well done

Honestly, I don't have the right words... but, thank you. All of that means a lot to me.

* The hope for Jelani McDonald is that he emerges as a star for the Longhorns in the secondary this season. "I think once you get past Colin (Simmons) and (Anthony) Hill, it's completely fair to think he can be the third-best player on our defense. It's his time to step up," a team source told me this weekend.

Do you see any changes in the next year or two with NIL or the Portal? Something has to give I would think. Does not seem like it has as big of a impact on the other sports as it does with football. The big thing I would like to know with some of the big time recruits and players is why not Texas? What is the real reason why? Money, wanting to get away from home, or to hard to get playing time? Do you know why we did not land Moore, Sanchez, Fasusi, Pettijohn, Justin Williams, Wesco, OL Fraizer, Hicks Jr, Bowen, Owens, Hale?

Hard to argue with any of the top ten list. Seems Steve Martin has to be in there, and my personal favorite John Mulaney. Not sure who you would kick out though.

I think the hardest I’ve laughed at a comedy set is Bernie Mack in the Orignal Kings of Comedy.

a. I would imagine tweaks to the Portal will certainly continue.

b. Not everyone wants to go to Texas. It's kind as simple as that. Why would you assume that it would be otherwise?

Let's see your top 10.

In no particular order:

Pryor
Murphy
Norm
Hedburg
Rock
Gillis
Segura
Burr
Regan
Chappelle

Mark Normand, Chris Destefano, and Sam Morrill are great as well.

Have seen them all live except for Pryor, Murphy, Norm and Rock. Was going to see Rock in Houston after the Oscars incident, but was out of town when he came.

2 guys I see clips on Tiktok a lot from Kill Tony are Hans Kim and Ari Matti. All of their clips are bangers.

If you take away the money part and I offered a better product that you can get that is more convenient, why would someone from the state not want to be close enough for family to see. Get paid very well, on the biggest of stages, with the best education, contacts after football, coached up to get drafted, and amazing facilities. I don't get why a kid at LB goes to OSU or Mich or ND to play or a kid from Texas would go way out to the west coast to play WR or RB if you can do it at the highest level right at home? I get why you would want to come to Texas because they offer more than most places unless you want to stay close and you are from the area. Tech, LSU, OK, are not the best of schools. It used to be because we played by the rules and did not pay and cheat then it was we did not win. I get one kid might be outside the box and want to go far away or a parent went to LSU or Tech. I feel like Texas should have a top 6-8 player at each position every year. OSU is loaded every year with the best WR, LSU at DB A&M at DL, ND at LB. Do you think Texas has a top 5 RB room or OL room or LB room in the country? They have lots of talent at DB. I try not to look at Texas with burnt orange glasses on but they have so much to offer.

Honestly, I thought the Longhorns deservingly made the Tournament.
Is a play-in game really "making" the tournament? I say no. You weren't selected to be IN it. You were chosen as one of eight to try and GET in the big dance.

Your dream isn't everyone's dream.

I mean not winning is a game is not winning a game. The rest is just details.

Rodney Carrington, Jeff Foxworthy, Carlos Mencia, and Ralphie May were some of my favorites that were not ranked.
all fantastic
Carlos Mencia is basically banned from stand up due to ripping jokes. He is the poster boy for stealing material - I’m not posting a link cause he is the GOAT of comedic theft. Google joke thief and his picture appears.
