He meets all the criteria. He has coached in NFL as HC, has mentored under Carroll and Saban and has learned his lessons and he knows pro and spread offenses and is QB guru. He knows it takes defense to win titles from Carroll, Saban and Monte (dad) and he is one of if not best offensive mind in college and loves to run the ball and can recruit and he's young. Getting him to Austin keeps him out of LA and sort of grounded like Alabama. If you can't get Shaw, get this guy.

Troll gonna troll but in response to the troll never trust a Saban or Carroll assistant much like I would never trust a Belechick assistant. Those guys control every aspect of the program and are smart enough to coordinate the offense, defense and special teams. If Saban wanted to he could boot Kiffin take the sheet and call the offense then turn around and call the defense. Carroll could do the same thing. Those guys assistants haven't been world beaters.

Kiffen is not head coach material. He's done great things with our offense, but he has Saban keeping him in line. You can't dispute his success as an offensive coordinator, but he should not be a head coach.

He probably deserves to be a HC again somewhere. It won't be a top job like Texas though. If UT gets to the point where they have to hire lane they are in real trouble.

I'm not surprised Saban gave him a shot. Just as I'm not surprised he is giving sark a shot. When you have reached the level Saban and Bellichek has you can do that. Let's not forget before he went to Tennessee and USC he somehow got an NFL job. Probably not fair to say he failed at Tennessee. He wasn't there long enough to fail lol
His dad is Monte Kiffin, NFL defensive coordinator/position coach from 1983-present. That probably contributed to Lane getting a shot in the NFL. Plus, Lane was the USC offensive coordinator in 2005 (Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, and almost 50 points per game).

He is a proven OC under great coaches (Saban & Carroll) and a mediocre head coach.
