- The Good and the Bad of Quinn Ewers

Computing and discussing Quinn's career is tough enough. But after he went in the 7th round of the draft, I've been trying to wrap my head around all of it.

First off, I don't think a Texas fan should let the draft spot cloud what he did at Texas. He helped bring UT back to the elite of college football and the back to back Final 4's is a first at the school. He gave you some big time moments...At Bama, at Michigan, and that throw against AZ St to save the day. Oh, and he beat the hated rival like 100 to 3 in two games. Plus he led the victory over the Aggies and Razorbacks.

He also handled the shadow of Arch Manning with so much class. No eye rolls caught on camera, no late night social media posts, no story about his camp threatening to transfer. He just did his job. Also, don't let yourself get sucked in by "What if Arch played instead?" I said all 3 (Sark, Arch, Quinn) had to handle it well and they did. They all knew the plan. There is no guarantee Arch beats Ohio St and then Notre Dame. There's no guarantee they are in the Final 4 again. That's assuming A LOT. So let that all go. Woooo Sahhhhh. You're gonna get 2 years of Arch (also part of the plan). Enjoy.

There is so much good. But we all know what's coming...the BUT. Covering Texas all these years gets me a clear perspective. I don't bleed orange, but I'm also the only Aggie you know who was not taught to hate Texas. So let's be real on both sides of what happened in Green Bay at the draft...

...Quinn had to know 5 guys were going ahead of him. Now, did I think Quinn's Combine throwing was better than Dart, Milroe, Shough, and Gabriel? Yes I did. But, obviously there's more to consider. So Ewers knows Ward and Sanders go before him. Dart makes a move, he's ahead of Quinn. Shough has that size, got better in an NFL type system, and kept rising. He's probably gone first. And then there's Milroe... X factor discussions and lottery ticket analogies. That's the 5. For those that say Quinn should have known he would go in the 7th round, I think that's nuts. He just knew it was those 5.

Which brings us to the Dillon Gabriel pick. Quinn Ewers had EVERY right to think that could be him in the 3rd round. The Sanders thing had gone full soap opera. Who knew where he'd go. And Quinn is SO much better than Gabriel. I could not believe that one. But even if you want to tell me Sanders had to go before Quinn, ok. Then somebody explain to me the 6 guys that went next.

McCord, Howard, Leonard, Mertz, Cam Miller, and Rourke. I'll save Quinn the Montana St embarrassment. That dude was drafted as a receiver.

You're telling me in the fight for a back up role, you'd go with any of those 6 over Quinn? I would not.

I get he needs to stay healthy. So does Gabriel. I get he needs to be more consistent. Have you seen Riley Leonard throw NFL routes? If I was Quinn, I'd be insulted. I hope he is. I am rooting for him. To be an NFL backup, he has to show more than Zack Wilson. Yup. That's the task. I'm gonna keep up with the careers of Gabriel and those other 6 that went ahead of Quinn. Let's see if the NFL was right. I'll take Quinn. Best of luck young man, and thanks for all your class in a classless world.
