Spoke to someone this morning who knows Fenves and I couldn't help but laugh when the person said.
"He's a nerd. He's an engineering nerd. I don't call people nerds, but he's a nerd."
The quote above is a big reason I would tell everyone to take a chill pill this morning. Fenves has been forceful in saying he will not make a decision before the end of the season and that message has never once changed in the last few months. He doesn't want to be pressured now without having all of the data in front of him.
He's a nerd and he wants ALL the data and not some of the data.
The biggest hope for change from those that want change but haven't yet heard is there will be change is this belief that Fenves won't make an emotional decision, but a calculated decision based on all of the pros and cons being measured AFTER he has all of the data.
If he were a big-time football fan, he'd be one of those guys that inhales the Football Outsides Almanac in a day for sport. He's not a big-time football fan. He'd be on the side of Lamda, Lamda, Lamda before he's be with the Alpha Betas and that means a very, very, very smart decision will be making the decision.
Anyone telling you a direct certainty exists with what decision he'll make is wrong based on everyone I've spoken with. Fenves is NOT showing his cards and he's pushing away people trying to look at them.
Everyone is going to have to accept (or not accept, I suppose) that this is the textbook definition of fluid and you're not going to have any finality today, tomorrow and through all of next week.
Yet, when Fenves finally sits down to make a decision, you can feel safe in knowing the smartest guy in the room is making the decision. However, he is not obsessing over this like you.
