Texas has signed Sioux Falls grad transfer running back Gabriel Watson, according to my sources. He is not expected to practice with the team until Tuesday.
Here some background on Watson from the Argus Leader:
"The 2019 season was supposed to be Gabriel Watson’s year.
"The USF running back had taken the NSIC by storm in 2018, leading the nation with 1,957 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns (both single-season school records), and was returning for his senior season alongside a loaded USF roster that had its sights set on a Division II national championship.
"But the team and personal accolades Watson dreamed of quickly turned into a nightmare. Watson suffered a hamstring injury before the season opener against Concordia-St. Paul, where the heavily favored Cougars were walloped 41-17. Watson returned the next week but wasn't himself, rushing for just 23 yards on nine carries.
"The loss to Concordia put USF’s championship hopes in jeopardy before they’d even suited up at Bob Young Field. And while Watson’s injury was originally classified as a week-to-week situation, he would end up never returning to the field."
Watson will join a backfield consisting of Keaontay Ingram, Roschon Johnson and Bijan Robinson.
