So little ol' Louisiana has the most production returning from last year than any other program. Remember that they also took out Iowa St game 1 last year.
Considering we have a new staff, new qb, new systems, new this & new that, should we freak out if it's a very close game or even come up with a loss? Feels very similar to maryland.

As of now the Cajuns are ranked as the 5th, 6th/ 7th best non power 5 team. The better/ more serious analyst are picking Texas to win the game and control the game. They are not a great passing team and lose two very solid RB's and Texas and this staff should be able to neutralize them. I think Texas wins by 14 or more at home..

Even if we play well this could be a "who has the ball last" type game.

Y’all cannot lose this game as we head into the SEC next year. You will never hear the end of it from Aggy

I think we're looking at a low scoring game if they aren't able to pass very well. Texas will likely dish out a healthy dose of B Robinson while occasionally letting our young qb throw a few easy routes for confidence building.

Their experience and returning production are worrisome to me. This will be a great early test for the players and coaching staff. We absolutely must win in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Our coaches better have these guys ready to play!

I think this is one of the most important season openers in awhile. One of the problems Herman had is he really never started off with any positive momentum. They came out in his first game and laid the dud agsinst Maryland, and it just got everything off to a sour note and I’m not sure he ever really recovered from that honestly. So this game is important for sark just to get some positive mojo following

I watched their Iowa State and Costal Carolina games on YouTube in July. They would have finished in the top half of the Big XII last year. They return something like 20 starters and added some power five depth in the transfer portal. They will probably be the best group of 5 team. I don't see this as an easy game.

The aggsy left a decade ago and we can still hear them complain. It's like having herpes, the sores will dissapear for a while but the virus never really goes away.
Little bit of irony here. Left a decade ago and we still here them complain, but why are you posting about Aggie when it’s a decade later. Next comment would be why are you on a Texas board a decade later. I’ve admitted I like the banter back and forth.
Texas should not struggle in this game. There is no comparison in talent. If this game scares you then the jump to the SEC should terrify you. You should be able to line up and manhandle them.

This is the type of disrespect that gets Aggy beat by lesser teams. UL would’ve also finished in the top half of the SEC too.

I hear you, but be honest with yourself and be realistic about your team. a&m has done absolutely nothing since joining the SEC other than getting a paycheck. aggy is nothing but a punching bag in that conference.

Umm, we've kinda pushed back together again if you havn't heard so yeah, the crap talking is back. The only irony here is that you've remained on this Longhorn forum the entire time and complain that we're talking about aggs like herpes.....get it?

To be honest, I'm looking forward to playing new faces from sec every week, including your improved aggs. Nobody is afraid of Louisiana but they are a perfect storm for a season opener when we've changed everything from QB to coach in our program. I think Texas will survive just fine and potentially skyrocket after a few seasons of growth pains.

I wonder if Sark is going to wait until gameday pregame warmup to tell his players “you better watch out”? In my recollection of Texas football history, that strategy was not effective when Charlie Strong led our troops against mighty BYU. Perhaps he thought it would go down as a great battle cry akin to “come and take it” or “remember the alamo”.

Sark won’t be overlooking the game as Napier was on the Bama staff during Sark’s first time there. They are apparently very good friends.

Well I will agree to an extent. I’m not the sunshine pumper for A&M. Under Sumlin Johnny made A&M and finished 5th. Sumlin took that team the wrong direction. Jimbo has them going to a really good place right now. His talent has gotten better each year and this is his team built the right way. He has developed and recruited the offensive and defensive line with some top talent. He has built a defense and now can play D and control the clock. He has stocked the quarterback and running back rooms. Last year going 9-1 and finishing 4th in the country is not bad according to most standards. Sumlin a years have been average for sure but Jimbo built it the way the way it’s supposed to be built in the SEC. beating LSU 2 of the last 3 years is a start in the right direction as well. Top recruiting classes in the last 3 years is building more than we ever have. It hasn’t been as bad as you would make it I think but I understand where you are coming from.

How do you finish 4th when you don't make the top 4 in the play-off.

Explain that to me, please.

I agree that so far what Jimbo has done from a building standpoint is impressive. However, what should concern you is QB play. Neither guy is proven or all that impressive, IMO. a&m has FIVE new O-linemen, which is a huge concern.

The D is solid. WR and RB is solid. Beating LSU last year was no big deal. They were down, as expected, and everyone with a pulse beat LSU, so don't count that as an accomplishment. a&m has a lot of talent. They just have to show that they can put the pieces of the puzzle together with that talent.

I think quarterback play will surprise you a bit. I don’t think either has to be great. They need to not make mistakes. I think both can do the job until Weigman gets there. That dude is going to be special. I’ve gotten to watch him on a couple of occasions and he is the real deal.

I watched Haynes King in HS several times and was not impressed at all. Obviously I haven't seen him in practice at a&m and how he may or may not have been coached up. He's a project, as is Calzada. Neither guy is a "wow factor" guy, IMO. a&m's problem is Alabama, as was Texas and OU in the Big 12. The reality is, a&m is not getting past the giant road block in their way that is the Crimson Tide.

I'm with you on Haynes King. Watched him in high school a couple times as well and both times came away thinking there was no way he was a division 1 QB. I could be wrong about that as well and it wouldn't be the first time I have been.

As long as Sark is calling plays, and I assume he will, we should be fine.

Fair enough on that. We will see on the QBs. I’m not saying one way or another. I think they will be better than you might think but I could be wrong. You are right on Alabama. I don’t think ANYONE in the SEC passes them but you have to get good enough to win 3-4 out of 10. The talent gap has slowly evened out a bit over the past couple of years which helps but no one will beat them consistently because they are too damn good.

There's a tsunami about to turn the sec upside down and you know who it is. 😁

You can call the perfect play but if the OL doesn't block or the WR drops the pass it doesn't mean much.

That's true but if the play calling sucks, it doesn't matter what else happens either.

It won’t be OU. OU has been Fools good of running through the weakened Big 12. You have out recruited the Big 12 and have better athletes. You don’t out recruit SEC teams. This year you are 8th in the country so far in 22 and 5th in the SEC. you we be able to fly through a bunch of 3 star athletes as you have in the Big 12. This isn’t Kansas anymore

Ok state defeated miss state last year. Texas would have defeated lsu easily. Texas was 13 pts from being undefeated. It won't be as difficult as advertised except for bama. I would take OU -20 vs aggy. 77-0 was for real.

Seems to me OU did just fine with that Florida team last year who was the second best team in the SEC. O ya let me guess Florida didn't want to be there LOL!
