I don't want either, LSU offense not impressive and Chip Kelly called the offense for Oregon. Opinions anyone on who we should get??

I’d prefer Helfrich. Think his HC expierence could be valuable, and the Oregon offense was still good with kelly and then Frost left(20th in the country). Shit If we had the 40th ranked offense last year were probably playing UGA in the Rose Bowl yesterday.

Something I will never understand: TH saw the incredible success that Gilbert and Maddox (sp?) had in 2016 and didn’t at least kick the tires on those guys?

I think if they were here and given the same freedom they had under Charlie our defense would not have been as good as it was this year.

Incredible success? I would rather have them than Beck or Watson, but I wouldn't call the 2016 longhorns an incredible offense.

You mean, like they wouldn’t have HAD to be as good? That seems weird to me. And yeah, compared to 2014-15, Gilbert’s offense was pretty damn incredible.

It's been thought that the way those types of offenses has to practice (really fast and a lot of plays) hurts the defenses development because the coaches have no time to correct mistakes in real time. They have to watch practice film to show the players what they were doing wrong after the fact. The practices are geared to help the offense and not the defense. It's probably not a coincidence how most hurry up no huddle offenses that play really fast do not have good defenses.

Lol - seriously though, from 2010 to now, when did Texas field a better offense than 2016? And is it even close?

2012. Which version of the 2016 offense we talking about. The 1st half of the season or the 2nd half?

Practice doesn't work like that. The only real person that did good on good was Pete Carroll at USC. Most of the time it's the 1's and 2's vs scout team ( walk-ons and redshirts). O is doing their thing on one side D is doing something totally different on the other side.

The reason I heard Canada’s offense sucked at LSU is cuz orgeron wouldnt let him take the reigns

You have a point EKAL, but I really think the main reason our defense showed so damned good was due more to Dickson than our crappy 3 and out offense.

Coaches convention is early next week 1/7-1/10 in Charlotte. Let the musical chairs for the asst coaches commence.

It's not a coincidence because the general metrics used to judge good defense are somewhat outdated. Things like total yards and points are common place in the good defense argument don't take into to account the amount of plays faced. Teams that run a lot of plays on offense are going to leave their defense exposed to a lot of plays. Two teams that want to run a lot of plays on each other are going to really leave their defenses exposed. Their defenses look bad at first glance but some more advanced metrics may show they weren't as bad as you would think just looking at points and yards.

First half - when the season still meant something. The important half. I haven’t taken the time to research stats, but I don’t remember 2012 being particularly good.

The Giblet/Maddox O had it flaws. They also had better personal at their disposal. The best three offensive linemen, all three NFL talents, from 2016 were gone this season(C. Williams, Perkins, Hodges). Then the current staff lost the starting right tackle and multiple more injuries. Further, this new O needs TE's and by mid season they were down to 4th string TE by the bowl game 5th string TE.

And of course, Giblet had a game changer RB in Foreman (behind a much better OL) that is light years better than Warren/Porter.

Stats mean nothing. You have an offense when you line up 11 vs 11 and do your will when the need arises. 2016 did not do that at all. Line um up and make a 1st down on 3rd and 2. No way baby... All show and no doe...

You mean before everyone found out Gilbert only ran 5 different plays. :D

2012 wasn't awesome or anything it just wasn't complete crap that we've been watching. There were some stinker performances but it's was the best we've seen since 2010. Defense was a joke that year though.
