Just watched every throw/run from the Tennessee and Auburn games, via YouTube.
Holy hell does this guy like to hold onto the ball. Of the 10 completions against auburn, 6 were screens or balls otherwise thrown at the LOS. That means 4 completions beyond a yard or two. At least one of those was manufactured from a scramble or breakdown of a play.
Basically every passing down: he gets the ball, looks indecisive for 2-3 seconds, then he starts to explore where he can run. This would drive me bonkers if I was an OU fan.
I expect heavy zone from us, with eyes always facing the QB. There’s nothing on the tape so far that shows he can threaten through the air, other than one long pass (his other long throw was easily overthrown).
I’m usually nervous about this game, but this is the most confident I’ve felt in some time. I see why Venables is so confident in his D. He literally can’t be confident about anything else.
