This was a fun listen if you like OL evals, with Nate Tice having his dad (former NFL OL coach Mike Tice) on. In particular on Kelvin Banks, Mike Tice was much higher on him than the consensus & pushes back some on Nate's reservations on him at LT. Here are a few of his observations:

  • Loves the athleticism. With the amt of WR screens the Texas offense ran, Banks was excellent out in space
  • Good finisher, great change of direction, good motor, good technique
  • Does the little things right, like how he goes upfield on a DE & redirects well when DE tries to come back up underneath. Excellent at maintaining contact against some of the superior athletes at DE
  • Hand placement: very good. Outstanding on arm extension (When you can keep the defender away from your body, it gives you the ability to better redirect & handle a secondary move from a pass rusher - critical against the elite edge rushers in the NFL)
  • Ranks him above Campbell (against the consensus grain) & in same tier as Membou

Draft coverage on Kelvin has been lukewarm at best, so it's nice to hear a credible opinion on what football minds do like about him. He's not a perfect prospect but certainly is one of the top OL prospects in this draft. Would not be shocked to see him start trending up as we draw closer to the draft (can always count on Matt Miller to hype Texas players lol too).
