Muhammad Ali dead at 74

Not what I said. If there is a war requiring a draft, you should serve IF CALLED. In normal times the military should be voluntary.

You are free to disagree.
You want someone to protect you but you are not willing to step up and protect others. Just like a lot of 2 faced hypocrites. The military is needed in peacetime just the same. And you have the audacity to say Ali is wrong.......friggin aggys

Never been drafted, but would not dodge if drafted. I can not follow your logic, should military be voluntary in peace time?

What hasn't been posted on this thread is how famous Ali was around the world. To be truthful until his dying day he was the most famous man in the world, certainly the most famous athlete. And when it came to that Michael Jordan want s*** compared to Ali. Ali once visited a Chicago Bulls practice. He actually told Ali that he can't think of any athlete who is better known around the world. Ali told him something like now you have. He told Ali that he will be glad when he can go somewhere without people wanting to talk to him said he won't miss it. Ali told him he would. In short it was good to see someone stand up to him and call him out on his conceit.

In 1999 ESPN had their 100 greatest athletes of the 20th century. I couldn't believe it that they put Michael Jordan number one, Babe Ruth number two, and Ali number three, and Jim Brown number four. It was a total lack of respect for history. That's when I realized that as far as ESPN is concerned they don't want you to be outspoken, it's corporate and being popular and don't do anything else. For those that have really thought about it haven't you noticed how corporate ESPN is? They have otl and every once in while a 30 for 30 and that's it. They're shameless corporate kiss a** front runners. I mean haven't you noticed this since the SEC started their run in cfb a few years ago? They even have a segment about SEC fb wives wtf?

Look the Babe at number two I can consider that but number three and four were incredible not just in their chosen profession but we're legendary for their skills in other sports as well. But Ali and Brown were outspoken black men and that was more important to them than endorsements. And because of that they both should have been ranked ahead of Michael Jordan.

I took the step in 1978. But I didn't resent people like Muhammad Ali. I will defend and protect people who believe as he did just like I would every other American. Ali did what he thought was right for him I could accept that. I grew to understand that just because he spoke out against racism didn't mean he hated his country. He didn't.

I watched the ghosts of Manila that mm is taking about. A lot of Frazier's people who were on friendly terms with Ali have asked him to let go that what's done is done. After Joe died his son Marvis said that when he wasn't drinking and not off his blood pressure medicine he liked and respected Ali. When he was he made all those comments. Joe died broke Ali is worth millions. But Frazier was diagnosed with cancer 6 weeks before he died. Marvis said the first person he called was Ali and after he did he cried about all that happened between them. Ali stood and applauded when Frazier was eulogized. I could sympathize when Frazier when he despised Ali. I'm glad he was finally able to let go.

But make no mistake about it when they were fighting each other they truly despised each other. Thomas Houser said they didn't didn't for the championship they thought for the championship of each other and that was true. In the history of sports there was never a one on one match up like this one.

Rip Ali

Several people didn't like it and complained about the ghost of Manila and it's inconsistencies, as his purpose was to go against the grain of what everyone else was saying. He was trying to sell books, and it wasn't different from anything that Kram had said before. Of course there were issues between the two, but I'll go with what the men said themselves, along with their close friends. That's just me.

I don't get why anyone would think he hated his country, because he spoke out against racism...unless their racist.

ESPN might have just been ranking athletes based on athletic accomplishments alone. If you want social change included, I agree Ali was a lot more important than Jordan. Ali and Jackie would be the top 2 in that context. Best overall athlete is opinion driven, how many voters ever saw the Babe? Young folks never saw Ali or Jim Brown. Even not so young folks like myself never saw Ali until he was way over the hill.

He's an aggy? I've been going easy on this guy, because I thought he was a Texas fan.

You may be right, obviously neither of us really know. But if you tried to leave Smokin Joe a voice mail at the time of his death, this was what you heard.

"My name is smokin Joe Frazier, sharp as a razor.
Yeah, float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.
I'm the man who done the job, he knows, look and see"

I guess it could be interpreted in more than one way.

BLH is really strong in this thread. Ali was a great boxer. Texxxaaasss (BLH) you're entitled to your opinion on Ali and religion I suppose but good grief man. Sometimes less is more. Get off the race train.

Who is on the race train? Just shut the **** up. You must be offended, because it has been proven over and over, on this very board, that you're racist. A hit dog gone holler. Remember you came at me, not the other way around. I got a feeling you're going to make me blaze into you. Less is more, would be you keeping your mouth closed, okie. I spoke the truth, if that offends you, then good.

Haha, yeah that voicemail proves your point. So much hate in that voicemail. You're hilarious.

The only person spewing BS is you, and you sure as hell don't get to tell me what to post. Who the **** are you. How about this racist okie, show everyone the remarks that offended you so much, and show what I posted as fact, so everyone can see that you're a petty racist clown, that's complaining about nothing. You stick around to agitate and provoke...you add nothing else to this Texas Longhorn board.
