Next Year

Yup he is a freshman but if you go back and watch the game he did make some NFL caliber throws in that game. Look at the throw at about 2:28. Prefect pass under pressure off his back foot. That is a Sunday throw. But then look at the first INT at about 1:11. That was a bad throw, even for a college freshman. There aren't many college kids that can make the good throws Ewers has made all year. Quick release, very accurate and typically on time. He is even pretty good off schedule. There is a reason he will be one of the top QBs when he decides to come out. He just needs to spend more time in the film room learning how to be a top flight QB.

Yes, he is a freshman and yes he has NFL talent but he doesn't have the experience to get us to the playoff. This is my point, by the time he has the experience to get us to the playoff, he will be in the NFL. We need to be sourcing experienced players if we want to win the B12 and make the playoff. He will be gone next year. Why do we have to be the guinea pig? Follow Coach Beard's example and play with older more experienced players.... We can do this by sourcing the portal every offseason. Hype and HS recruiting should be secondary to portal transfers. The one and done in basketball is not a recipe for continued success in the NCAA tournament. If we can get 5 star guys who are willing to sit and learn, then do it but at the cost of L's, no thanks.

Not everyone is K Banks, I understand. Yes, K Banks should be starting. He is that good but most aren't. I would take Banks over Ewers in a draft if it were held today. Ewers needs time so that the game can slow down. The problem is, his timetable is to enter the draft after next season and Manning is waiting in the wings. It's a lot to expect IMO. Texas is not stacking the cards for success and is taking more risk than it should. If this thing blows up next year, we may be in aggy shoes.

We are a 10+ win team next year without Bijan and Worthy. What portal QB will get us into the playoffs next year? In fact what portal QB is better and the 3 guys already on our roster?

I can see why people are skeptical about Quinn but are we really giving up on a guy after a couple of bad games now? I just think that people have some mythological standards for this kid because of his recruiting ranking. Sure he could have been better but at the same time he's essentially a true freshman. And we are 5-2 in games he has started and finished. The 2 losses are by single digits as well.

Go back and watch some of those early VY games throwing the ball and then go watch him his junior year. I'd say he turned out just fine after some less than stellar games his RS freshman year. It takes time for these guys to develop.

Between Quinn, Malik, and Arch coming in January I have faith one of these kids is going to work out for the future. QB is near the bottom of my list of worries for the future.

If you rely on the transfer portal heavily you are going to have up and down years and have trouble having sustained success. Just look at Michigan State last year to this year as an example. And comparing basketball to football is a silly comparison as well. In basketball all it takes is 1 or 2 guys to transform a whole roster. It takes more than that in football.

Duggan was 2nd string at TCU. Make it happen.

OK....this is the deal. I know everyone has been hanging on with bated breath waiting for my storied opinion on Ewers.

The kid has other worldly talent. He was kicking ass against Bama until he was taken out on an obvious take out play. Too bad....then he gets a return game against OU and was unbelievable again. Then came the Iowa State game....great defense at Iwa State. Something happened in that game that shook the young mullet man. He has been tentative ever since.

Hopefully in Bowl preperation or spring or fall workouts he will find the swagger again. That is all that is missing. If he can find it, he will be great to super great from now on......If he cant find it he will be just another Steve Blass.

Quinn has played like 7 college games. He’ll be fine. And if he isn’t we’ve got guys here and coming in that will take his spot.

not only 7 games..but also not even a real spring game this past april. Dude was knocked out against bama...came back and torched a bad OU defense...riding high drinking his own koolaid ..started facing good defenses.Game gets faster and you get more coverages .loses a finger nail on his throwing hand and has to listen to every Texas fan who was drinking his jock water 4 weeks ago too now saying bench the 18 year old he sucks! HES NOT WORTHY OF THIS TEAM THAT JUST WENT 5-7...

good god catch a breath, drink a beer, hell go bang your old lady and calm the f down.

Ewers will grow and MARK MY WORDS, this time next year ppl will be saying "god i really hope Ewers comes back next year." Like yall are saying that now with Bijan.

Another issue is he has always been able to throw to his first read and now teams are making him go through his progression and he looks like a freshman doing it. If teams play man he’ll usually torch them. The bowl game prep and spring ball will be great for him going into next season.

With every post, 2300 is showing why he is neither a college head coach or an NFL gm. For that matter, a historian too-- who are the best players in Texas' history? I got news for you-- save for colt and maybe vasher, them fellas were allllllll 5 stars or whatever the equivalent was at the time. Earl Campbell, Ricky Williams, ced Benson, vince, earl Thomas, Steve worster had a whole class named after him, Bill Bradley, nobis, I'm guessing Bobby Layne was sought-after, Bijan, Jerry gray, Roy Williams...

So Garrett Gilbert and Jerrod heard didn't pan out-- that ain't ewers' fault

Ewers has been inconsistent the whole year and I am unsure if his work in the film room has improved. It shouldn't have been a competition between him and Card.

I don't know if Card sticks around for the spring but if he does then there will be 4 QBs that are going to have to perform at a very high level to win the job.

Remember when our QB room was full of guys David Ash, Case McCoy, Tyrone Swoopes, Conner Brewer, etc. Now we have NFL talent competing with NFL talent.

lets go even further...would you rather have swoopes? Case McCoy?
Good job Steve, you read my mind.

Who's man enough to eat some crow?
literally nothing to see here...Thats basically Coach saying i dont want any of my guys to transfer..which is a good problem to have. Youre reaching. Back off the kid, let him grow.

I think that it is very possible that Card may start next year. He would be serviceable with an above average to great OL. Manning would step in for 2024.

This is the crux of the problem from the article, "The struggles forced Ewers to admit that he’s gotten lazy with his footwork, including how he moves in the pocket, setting up an important offseason during which he needs to refine the base of his delivery, emphasize moving in the pocket with more purpose, improve his accuracy on deep balls, and develop better study and preparation habits." Dude is lazy. He's been resting on his God given talent. He needs to grow up.

Ewers got jumpy during the latter part of the season. What got in his head? He often looks like Eli Manning always did with that open mouth I’m lost look. But underneath the hood he’s a baller. He didn’t grade a perfect 5* for nothing. Talent and the brain will eventually mesh. We saw a few flashes. Ewers for Heisman ‘23.

Heard he was slow to learn the playbook.
We also heard a lot of other stuff that wasn’t true. Like Card was going to be the starter. It’s pretty wreckless to claim Quinn is lazy and not a hard worker. There hasn’t been a single thing to suggest that. All this wreckless speculation is a perfect example of why I can’t stand our fan base. Kid comes in and struggles for 4 games an we are ready to kick him to the curb. Un****ing believeable.

I did in a thread two weeks ago. Said I was wrong about Ewers. But, why are we presenting this with such joy?
i know why. there area lot of people that like to come on social media and tell everybody that we're so bad, that a certain player is so bad, or a certain coach is so bad. that way, if they're wrong and said player or coach or team is actually quite good, they get the joy of us winning; and if said player, team or coach is in fact bad (even though most have very little expertise to proclaim these things), they get to get on here or the tweeter machine or wherever and tell everybody how they told us all so. it's a weird, twisted win-win for them.

I'm just a fan what happened to Bijan against TCU?

He didn't have a good game against AL but considering the considering the competition there's no sin in that.

And speaking of next year I can't wait too see Jonathan Brooks play besides when the game is no longer in doubt.

🤘 Longhorn backfield will be solid next year, if everyone stays. Look for Sark to land a good rb transfer if it's needed. 🤘
