Here are a few notes from the short window of practice availability granted to the local media on Tuesday for Texas spring football practice, compiled from Anwar Richardson and Alex Dunlap:

FROM ANWAR (offense)

--- Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy threw passes to receivers during the limited portion of practice we were allowed to watch on Tuesday. Last week, Murphy was working out with other injured players on a separate practice field.

--- Texas linebacker Jaden Hullaby was taking reps at running back during practice. He was the last running back taking reps. I am waiting for official confirmation of the position change.

--- Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood praised Hayden Conner’s performance on the blocking sled. Flood wanted his offensive linemen to get low, hit the sled with his shoulder, and drive upwards. Flood said, “That’s the one, Hayden.”

--- Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice screamed with excitement with Keilan Robinson’s ability to make cuts during practice.

--- Longhorn receiver Jaden Alexis was on the sidelines with huge wrap on his right leg.

--- Texas running back Jonathon Brooks was back at practice after missing at least one practice last week due to personal reasons, according to Steve Sarkisian.

FROM ALEX (defense)

- Another full pads practice on Tuesday inside DKR, but the only portions open to the media were stretching, special teams and one period of position-group work. With that said, things are coming into focus on defense more and more if we can observe the groupings utilized during sideline pursuit drills:

- Kitan Crawford and Anthony Cook appear to be pretty locked in as the starting safeties for now. What is a little bit surprising has been the absence of JD Coffey with the first group (Coffey started the spring playing with the ones next to Cook), but as of today, he wasn't even with the twos, as that was Morice Blackwell and Jerrin Thompson. It's likely just a matter of mixing things up, but something to file away just in case.

- If the CB rotations in 2022 are anything like what we saw last year, it's simply a fact that we'll see freshman Jaylon Guilbeau play in games this season. Behind Ryan Watts and D'Shawn Jamison, he legitimately looks like a guy who'll develop into the 3rd option at outside corner at this time with Jahdae Barron now handling the nickel.

- Moro Ojomo was back at practice which is obviously a good sign. It will be interesting to see how he is integrated into what is a relatively stacked interior defensive line group numbers-wise. Alfred Collins seems to be the first up at the defensive tackle position to flank starting NT Keondre Coburn, but clearly you'd expect Ojomo to mix in there with him. The problem is that, behind Collins and Ojomo, there are still guys like T'Vondre Sweat who is working with the twos alongside Byron Murphy at the tackle and Vernon Broughton who is working with the threes alongside Myron Warren. There is a little bit of a logjam there, and, at this time, Ojomo really does have the looks of a true interior DL who may not have as much versatility to bump outside to SDE as he used to. Could Collins? Would they want to use him there? All things we're yet to find out.

- The reason you could see someone moving from the inside out is because the two primary JACK end guys are apparently Barryn Sorrell and Jett Bush. Bush worked some as an ILB to start camp, but has been back with the edge guys for most all of the rest outside of maybe a day or so. While Sorrell certainly has upside, that is a pretty shaky rotation with only inexperienced backups in the form of freshmen bringing depth. At the BUCK end, the primary edge-rush position, the two main candidates to be contributors look to be Ovie Oghuofo with the first group and Justice Finkley with the twos at this time.

- Demarvion Overshown seemed more involved in practice today than last week and the LB lining up next to him with the first group was Jaylan Ford. It's looking like Ford has a good grip on the mike linebacker role for the spring and potentially moving forward into the near-future.

- Not necessarily a defensive nugget, but one special teams note since that was the majority of the practice we were allowed to see today ... The front line of the first kickoff return team looked like this (left to right):

LE Jahdae Barron; LT Jerrin Thompson; LG Anthony Cook; RG Morice Blackwell; RT Kitan Crawford; RE Marcus Washington
