Notre Dame at TEXAS * Game Thread *

Go back and read half your posts. You all bitched and called for coaches heads. I do believe there is improvement and this game was it. Gave the young kids confidence. So $crew you nay Sayers. We won't win a natty this year but we never gave up and beat a good team. Be proud horn fans. Be proud.

A contract extension would be ridiculous...on what basis?
A 10 win season atop 5 recruiting class and an improving group of guys.

And yes we are young. Freshman and sophomores all over the field.
Still a log of games to be played but that's what it's looking like

I'm talking about the hoisting up of our coach as bitching. Who cares? We're not playing for Strong they are. I see it as respect and they're excited about who they play for. Why we criticize kids that are emotional about what just happened I'll never understand. It was a great team win! Hook Em!

I see, you are assigning a 10 win season & a top 5 recruiting class to him already. We have a lot of juniors playing this year.

How do you give up 47 points in Austin?

Play a real #10 rated team in the nation with some awfully tough and talented Babies... plus "old man" Tyrone Swoops. What were you expecting?

They have a True Freshman Center "spray snapping" the ball occasionally to a True Freshman QB... and the team had over 100 yds in some very silly penalties on a 500+ Yd night.

Like Clubber Lang once said in Rockie Two, " I predict pain..." for any that don't appreciate UT Football for a while.

Nice win but lets not get ahead of ourselves. Special teams is still terrible, we can;t get pressure with 4 guys and the DTs are getting pushed back into the backers. We are going to lose some winnable games this year if those things don't change.

Well he roped in a top 5 class after a 5-7 year. Seems like after a winning year a top 5 is likely. And yes a 9-10 win year seems fairly likely after getting past this gsme. Yes we gave some jr's playing but fresh and Sophs at key spots. Sounds like there is very little strong will ever do to convince you do this debate is rather pointless

Back to back 10 win seasons (while beating OU) will convince me.

I said that because Bell went on to play TE in the NFL. I don't think Swoopes has that kind of athletic ability.
Dude, EVERYBODY knew Bell was a TE or FB from day 1. He had no business trying to throw the ball but hey, who are we to squash a kids dream.

I'm proud as hell of the upper-classmen especially Oliver, Warrick, Boyette, and Bluiette. We had great contribution from a lot of guys tonight, and I'm getting the feeling this team could be special. Real special.

I was thinking the same thing. Saban plays with 4 down linemen in a cover 2 defense. I like that defense.
I'm thinking they're trying to protect the secondary but the secondary doesn't need any protection. Put 2 DE's and 2 DT's in. 2 LB's in a nickel or 3 LB's. Bring a constant rush with 1 of the outside LB's. It's really simple. If that doesn't change, the DC will be let go at the end of the season. As of right now, we don't have the DL to run a 3 down set. Maybe next year but not this year

Saban played a fair amount of nickel against USC, right? Most of the time, I remember seeing 4 down linemen, 1linebacker in the middle (the others in pass protection or on the edge), and 2 safeties.

To me if you are playing a lot of freshman and sophomores it means your two prior recruiting classes haven't really panned out. I don't think anyone would argue that had been the case at UT the last few years.
I see what you are saying and I appreciate that. For me, I'm tired of excuses and I need to see results. The OC provided the type of results I am happy with, no other coordinator did.

Yeah but you know, their DL and LB are deep. They have the luxury to do that. If we keep winning, we will get great recruits to do what we need.

In this day and age you have to be multiple on D. We base out of the 3-3-5 but can go to a 4-2-5, or a 4-3. Last year Bama had that insane front 4 and all that talent on D and they gave up 550 yards to Clemson.

There is a difference between excuses and reality. The reality is we didn't have the talent to compete the last two years. No coach could of changed that. This year is a different story. We may not wine dry game but we should be pretty competeive ever game

How do you give up 47 points in Austin?

(1) Play a very good offensive team with 8 upperclassmen among its 11 offensive starters with your defense having 8 true sophomores among its 11 starters, and then (2) give your opponent the ball six yards from the endzone at some point and (3) go to two overtimes. The latter two actions will tend to inflate scoring a bit. (So will letting your opponent score two of their points on ST.)

We are young? Really? Every year?

If a team that's 71% freshmen and sophomores with true freshmen starters at the very most important positions isn't young, I'm not sure what it would take to qualify.

And yes, we've had young teams for quite a while now. The reason is simple: just look at the insane attrition we experienced from the 2009-2013 classes. Well over half of the players we signed in those five classes failed to complete their eligibility -- and only two left early for the NFL. Most of these players were out of the program within two years. That's a surefire recipe for being perpetually young.

Oh, and do all of that while (3) having 8 of your 11 starters be true sophomores.

He doesn't get it, because he doesn't like Strong. I'm sure he'll give some feel good speech about being result driven, and blah blah blah. But he has never wanted Strong, around.

Find a post where I said that. In fact, I was excited about the Strong hire. But, he shoved sh!tty coordinators down our throats while dismissing the majority of upperclassmen. I am not excited about that or 5-7 and 5-7 and the historic blow out losses to terrible opponents he has racked up in 2 years. Yes, I am results driven-winners usually are results driven.

Buechele and Swoopes, using every weapon we got. Texas is locked and loaded, let's go huntin' in Big 12 country!
Well spoken and awesome way to start your posting career here on OB. Always glad to see new Horns join the fold. Welcome to board and as always - HOOK EM HORNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I get that some aren't happy with 5-7 neither am I. We could of brought in Saban. And the results would of been Simliar give or take a win or two. We just didn't have the talent especially at the QB spot to win at s high level. That appears to be changing.

As far as him dismissing most of the upperclassmen. I don't put that on Strong. That's on those kids. Strong set forth some rules the program was going to go by and those guys broke those rules. Strong had to punish them if he wanted his rules to have any credibility with the younger guys. Let's be honest to at that point the program needed a little discipline.

I think the problem some are having with the past two seasons is they don't want to beleive that Mack and the Admin let the program sink to the level it was at. Sadly they did. The tide is turning. And if you look at the amount of Charlie Strong Louisville guys that have been drafted the last couple years very little doubt he will put us where we need to go.

Big East Conference championship, Sugar Bowl win over #3 Florida, and 1000 APR score was what we got at UofL in year three. Only the best year in school history, in my opinion. Charlie has the blueprint. Enjoy the journey with one of the great men in college football leading the way, Horns.
