First, I’m sorry about the delay in getting this posted today. As much as I try to avoid it, I occasionally have to work a little bit (and of course I also had to get 18 holes of golf in). With that said, on to the task at hand: continuing the Mamelhorn thread streak.
Since the calendar moved from April into May, the Astros have one of the best marks in baseball (16-5). Without question, this has partly been due to their schedule getting a bit softer this month after being pretty brutal early on. However, we’ve also started to see this team win the way that the front office envisioned: outstanding pitching, best-in-the-league defense, and timely offense.
For the Cleveland Indi…ugh, Guardians, the month of May has been a little weird. First, bad weather has led to multiple postponements, so they’ve played only 16 games this month. Second, after starting the month playing pretty solid baseball (6-2), they’ve lost six of eight. The big issue for Cleveland this season has definitely been pitching, as they currently rank 22nd in baseball in ERA.
Probable pitching matchups (all times CDT):
Monday @ 7:10 pm
Triston McKenzie (2-3, 2.97 ERA, 0.96 WHIP) vs. Luis Garcia (3-2, 3.35 ERA, 1.06 WHIP)
Tuesday @ 7:10 pm
Cal Quantrill (1-2, 3.48 ERA, 1.19 WHIP) vs. Framber Valdez (3-2, 2.68 ERA, 1.26 WHIP)
Wednesday @ 7:10 pm
Aaron Civale (2-3, 7.84 ERA, 1.52 WHIP) vs. Cristian Javier (2-2, 2.87 ERA, 1.02 WHIP)
The Astros took 6 of 7 from Cleveland last season, and there’s no reason why this year shouldn’t bring more of the same. With this being a home series, nothing short of a series win will be acceptable (but a sweep would be much preferred).
As usual, I’m putting out the call for all of the OB Astros fans to get in this thread and post, like and reply early and often:
