The current Ohio State offensive line versus the Texas defensive front is the mismatch I'll be watching most closely here. If Will Howard doesn't have time to activate the Buckeyes' best weapons, Texas will find itself in good shape. Get ready for another nail-biter; especially when Bert Auburn walks onto the field to win the game.

Ohio State has been scorching red hot in these playoffs and when a team as talented as they are gets hot, there's nothing they can't do.

But I'm still not sold on Will Howard as the saviour capable of delivering the hardware to Columbus.

I think the Texas defense will find a way to slow down the Buckeyes offense.

The problem is, the Ohio State defense is as good, if not better than UT's defense and I think OSU gets to Ewers a lot on Friday night. As we've seen, when Ewers is getting pressured a lot, the offense shuts down.

I've been saying all week that this feels like an old AFC North game between the Steelers and the Ravens and nothing has happened to change my mind on this. The defenses on both sides are better than the offenses ... no offense to the offenses ... by a lot. I think this game comes down to a missed kick at the end, but it won't be Bert Auburn.

I remember when college football observers questioned if Texas could keep the score close against Alabama in Tuscaloosa last season. We know what occurred during that game.

Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian only has four losses over the past two seasons:

2023

34-30 vs. Oklahoma

37-31 vs. Washington

2024

30-15 vs. Georgia

22-19 vs. Georgia (OT)

Sarkisian's teams are always prepared and I expect more of the same against Ohio State. More importantly, am I supposed to believe Ohio State coach Ryan Day will avoid making his typical mistakes in big games? Sure, Ohio State defeated Oregon and Tennessee, but am I supposed to ignore that Michigan loss? I cannot.

Texas 20 - Ohio State 16

Jason Suchomel (14-1)

Some are making Ohio State to be unbeatable after the last two games, but this is the same team that scored only 10 points at home in an upset loss to Michigan.

On paper, it looks like both defenses should have the upper hand. The question … do I trust a UT offense that’s gone through long stretches of sluggishness? There’s a part of me that thinks maybe Texas finally puts it all together and plays a complete game … it has to happen at some point, right? Ultimately though, I’ll side with Ohio State and its playmakers at the receiver position.

Ohio State 24 – Texas 21
