I started riding my bike again after several years of being too fat and out of shape to do so the past few weeks and have been very pleased with how the city of Austin has improved the bike lanes around the city. When I first started riding many years ago most of the major roads had little to no bike lanes and finding alternate routes through neighborhoods was difficult and daunting. Now with the improved lanes and mobile mapping with turn by turn directions things are much easier and safer for the casual rider like me. I know that many people in Austin hate the new lanes since they do take up space that used to be for cars but for a 71 year old who is trying to tack on a few more years to the end of my time here on earth I appreciate them.
