Any of you guys ever do some deep sea fishing? I'm thinking of heading out to Port A for a little fishing and I want to do some deep sea fishing. If any of you have recommendations on who to go with let me know.

Cabo in October November. He best bill fishing on the planet and it isn't even close. You can catch bluefin tuna the size of a Volvo and striped marlin that will run away faster than a fat girl off her diet when the dinner bells rings.

The rooster fishing is insane as well as the jack fishing and Mahi Mahi. Best part is if you snag a tuna, pull that bad boy on deck and start chowing down on fresh, raw tuna.

Just don't get in the water. The sharks are plentiful and aggressive and love snagged tuna.

That's a lotta money for just a fish. I catch more than some guides do in my Lone star and 5 hp, you don't need to spend all that money for them high powered Cajun bass boats to catch fish, as for the patches on your fishing jackets, you can buy them at Goodwill for a dime and then you can look like a Pro, hell the biggest Striper I ever caught was on piece of Summer sausage, you'll find me in the Laguna Madre putting along drinking beer and fishing and listening to George Strait and Merle Haggard

I’ve been out of Port A 20+ times. Back in the single days it was college buddies up till 3am and on the charter boat for 6 people at 6am hung over providing our own chum on a 8 hr trip. Go out 15-25 miles, find some oil rigs or follow a shrimp boat and swap beer for fresh shrimp. Google “charter boats Port A” and you will find a list.
Now that I’m married with children I keep it lower key. Usually do a 6 or 8 hr trip on the Scat Cat with my 14yr old daughter. Best video I have is her first “FISH ON” reeling in a kingfish that fought for 20 minutes.
I hear Port A hasn’t fully recovered from hurricane as our usual condo place hasn’t reopened yet.
Good luck and enjoy!

We would do that at night to catch sharks---- following the shrimp boats, I mean.

Nobody gave a crap about hauling them in, we just wanted a good fight. I guess because I grew up on the coast I lost interest in redfishing and trout fishing after a few trips. It always smelled like shit, there were hard heads and trash fish rays every where. And I know I will catch hell for this but I didn't like redfish that much. Now red snapper? I would punch you AND your baby for some grilled red snapper.

I think as a kid, seeing how fvcking filthy the intercoastal was and how it walkways smelled like little Mary rotten crotch, I just wasn't big on eating fish out of there. But snapper and mahi----- I loved fishing for those.

Speaking of sharks, on one of my guys trips we had a fish on. It fought and fought for 45 minutes. We switched people reeling it in. It got close to the boat and the captain kept missing with his hook. He reaches into his glove compartment and pulls out a pistol. Leans over and fired 3 shots. The six guys of us look at each other and were like “oh fvck!”.
Got it on board and it was a 6ft black tail.
Good eating.

Oh brother---- that's the only way to fly. Long story short, a few years back a group and I went shark fishing one day off the coast of Angola. Someone had an AK on the boat. We snagged a shark. Hilarity ensued.

This is a great opportunity for me to segway into announcing I’m selling my 2016 22’ Blue Wave Pure Bay, if anyone is looking. Great condition

Port O'connor, which isn't far from Port A, has the best fishing on the texas coast no question and it's not up for debate. It's a hole in the wall little fishing town, and there's nothing there. So staying in Port A and driving would be a good idea. I know a guy down there, he's one of the select few Orvis endorsed fishing guides in texas, his name is KT and i can get you his info if you'd like.... He's more of a fly fisher but he'll take you in the bay or flats for reds, jack, trout, and tarpon and let you fish with a spinner if you want. When the reds are tailing, tarpon are rolling, or the jack are busting there's really no fishing that can equal that amount of fun. I've landed several 200lb tarpon with him, and I lost a monster right at the boat. It was easily 250lb but i like to call it a 300lb'er haha. Deep sea fishing is another story, I don't mind it and I've been more times than I can count, but trolling is so boring to me and I usually always fall asleep. I'd rather post up at a rig or wreck and catch monster grouper or sharks. Anyways have fun man! Come back and tell us your fishing stories

(@clob94 see above post. I'd have to disagree with you on flats and bays. If you've ever hooked a monster Tarpon you get addicted and spend crazy amounts of money on gear and learn to love the smell haha.)

Baffin Bay near Kingsville is also a really really good spot. But Port O'connor wins hands down due to best flats, bay, jetti, and also access to deep water/rigs

I get it. I hooked one in the keys years ago. I guess I've always been freshwater guy though. You hook a big fish offshore and then what? Lean and crank. Lean and crank. Lean and crank.

But in freshwater when you hook a fish you've got to manipulate the fish away from underwater structure that can snag you up and lose the fish. When I fished Rio Negro in Brazil and you hooked one of those master peacocks you had mere seconds to get that torpedo away from the mangroves or other tree roots or he was GONE. I had 5 and 6 ought gamagatzu hooks that were banana bent by fish. I just get off more on freshwater for some reason.

Thanks for all the recommendations but I'm hell bent on a 1 day deep sea trip, however I think I'll take you up on the Port O'Connor Flats, that sounds like a heck of a way to end my trip.

I think anywhere out of the Texas Gulf is about the same as far as deep sea fishing goes. The port you leave from is not that important as far as fishing goes, it's all the same ocean once you're out there. Just find a Captain with good reviews and you should be fine.

your a traitor to our fine city plus you going to that shit HS across town warp ya! Gulf shrimp is the best in the world in taste fresh water shrimp taste like shit as for the redfish ya didn't cook them right! Some Restaurants will try to pass Drum off as redfish in the big towns like Austin and SA, maybe that will help ya clob, as far as that shit school across town I can't help ya with that! But, I would rather eat Snapper than Redfish too, it will never be water and beaches on the Texas coast that would be like Florida and the smell never goes away, you just live with it, my biggest problem living on the water is Mildew, I am always bleaching outside
