These have worked well for me and lot of folks I know here in deep east Texas.

Anyone have a solution for flies? I have the mosquitos under control, but flies are terrible once we start cooking out in the Spring and Summer.

fFll a clear ziplock with water. Hang it from something near the area you don't want flies. It will reduce their numbers a lot. There is probably a "prettier" version of this online, but we used to do this in the horse barn and it made a big difference. I was told that due to how flies see, the bags of water look like a huge preditor. I don't know if that is accurate.

Cutter Backyard Bug Control Spray. Works pretty well for 5-6 weeks. Available at Target, Home Depot, HEB (at times). 32 oz concentrate cost about $9.00. I use 2 containers per treatment.
Same, although it takes me 5-6 bottles to do my place. Spray the heck out of all the trees and bushes. Then combine with the Spartan traps around the perimeter. Works well and much cheaper than the $400 month I was quoted to get my place fogged.

I use the Spartan Mosquito Eradicator. It’s basically a trap with a sugar, salt and yeast solution in it. Mosquitos are drawn in to lay their eggs in it and the eggs die.

I live on a .3 acre lot in NW Austin and put up two about a month ago. I haven’t seen any mosquitos in my back yard this spring.
Same here.

I planted lemon grass haven’t had a mosquito problem since.
I saw some people post about a citronella plant as well. How well will lemon grass and a citronella plant hold up in Dallas? My rosemary died with the cold snap (but that was a rather exceptional event).

I live just outside San Antonio the plant has held up pretty good to the weather conditions. Had to replant a couple due to the extreme cold in February. You can also use lemon grass as a herb in food.

Good resource

Also Citronella plants do not work as well as others. Lemongrass is pretty hardy and also you can use mint plants, lavender and a few others that definitely are better to look/smell than the citronella plants.

never in a million years did i think this would work. it does

If you have a sprinkler system, it’s pretty easy to install an EZ Flo tank. It’s worked well in my yard.
I’d never heard of this. Just goggled it and their web site says it’s for fertilizer. What do you put in yours?

Last year we built a really nice outdoor living space, but using it as almost unbearable with all of the mosquitos. Any recommendations on how to rid your backyard of these things? I was hoping with the hard freeze that they wouldn't be as bad this year. Unfortunately, they are already back.

Find the breeding source, kill that then install a misting system to cover key locations. I dont think mosquitos are traveling 45 miles to bite you... chance are you are the breeding problem

Not sure what you were looking at, but can put in both insecticide and fertilizer.

I need something for flies. It doesn’t matter how clean I keep that backyard. There are always flies everywhere!

Had the same issue last summer. I started using the Victor M380 Fly Magnet jar (purchased on Amazon) and that thing eats up flies like crazy. The number of dead flies is staggering. Like hundreds and hundreds. But it will smell nasty as hell after a couple of weeks in the hot summer sun. Although it says they are reusable, I can’t imagine anyone wanting to get close enough to a jar to do anything other than toss it into the outdoor garbage. So order some backups and enjoy the same sadistic pleasure I had last summer in removing thousands of flies from the earth and their potential decedents!

Awesome thanks. How often do you use the insecticide?

read about it on here awhile ago and put them out a couple weeks ago. So far so good. We normally have a bunch, but haven't seen many if any yet.

Former pest control guy (20 yrs): First eliminate any standing water source in the area. Then spray, paying close attention to shrubs or any shaded areas. They like to rest under the shaded spots during the heat of the day. Talstar is a great product. It is what most pest control services use, and it will take care of fleas/ticks in the yard as an extra benefit.

Does Talstar work on gnats as well?

Plant this as ground cover/trim between your lawn and your ornamental bushes. About 15 plants spread out in a line in your backyard should do.

Is it the nuisance of them or West Nile virus that is the bother? With what we have seen science do these past 14 months, and with animal vaccines for West Nile out there, it would be a good investment for Moderna or Pfizer to try their technology on West Nile. They never ruined my day until the West Nile bug hit, and then they crossed the line from annoying but tolerable to I don't want them.

First time I saw this was in Mexico, where they had them hanging from the edge of the roof around the outdoor restaurant. When we asked about it they said the bags were filled with VINEGAR and there were some small holes punched in the bag above the level of the vinegar, and that repelled the flies.

Used Mosquito Joe’s with excellent results.

MosquitoNix reclaimed my back yard. It’s a misting system with a monthly servicing that keeps it running plus occasional fogging. It works great - but - not cheap.

You can get a similar thing at Lowe’s that is a disposable bag instead of a jar. So once it’s full of flies, you just throw it away. Cheap too.
But yeah, like you said- astonishing how many flies pile up in that thing. Craziest thing- there’s no insecticide at all. They just drown. By the thousands.

We have a pool and seem to have a lot until we planted citronella plants and got these tubes that you just put water in (can’t remember the name). We hung up two from different trees in our backyard and haven’t had any issues
I believe the tubes that you're referring to are called "Spartan Mosquito Eradicator".

I use Cutter yard spray and have a few Thermacell patio units placed on my patio... works well.
