We have always been huge lab fans for all the reasons that so many people are. But the last one we had really broke our heart - we had to put her down at 9 yrs old due to liver cancer/failure, and basically the vet said "that's just one of the issues with pure bred labs".

So anyways, this time we got a rescue dog that is a mix of: 54% lab, 24 pit bull, and 12% Dutch Shepherd. We did that Embark DNA test, and the lab side is pure bred as far back as it goes, with the pit side being bred with the Dutch Shepherd - apparently this was a thing back in WW2 to try and create a better police dog (from reading internet).

Anyways, kinda interesting the level of athleticism the pit brings to the lab. I've had Dalmatians before, and they are also crazy athletic, but this lab/pit mix is something completely different. She can hurdle the top our sofa taking off from about 2 feet in front of it, and land on her legs in full sprint stride. her vertical leap is just nuts.

Anybody else notice these kinds of things with their dogs or with certain breeds? I've never owned a pit so maybe it is common with pit bull breeds?
