I think schools that cut off their Woodshop and Metal Shop and Auto repair and Home Eck really screwed the pooch, These programs taught a lot to kids, we had a College and HS program here at the bluff that was great and then they cut it, we had some kids that was ParaMedics at 18 here, thanks to them classes, I can see now how hard it is to get a education and make friends now days at these levels, these kids will never get 10 licks for Fing off... like we did, get ya ass paddled in the morn by the Dean of Boys and the coach paddle you ass in the afternoon at PE, that was fun days..probally wondering wha I did for the 10? Flush a Cherry Bomb down the commode in Boys Bathroom and flooded the hallway aw shit it was a mess, then my old man tore me the Big asswhipping when I got home and my mother just talked to me about playing with matches shit speech..good ole Mom. always there for ya! My Mom was a better Lawyer than most in Texas when it came to my Dad...lol

When I was in HS, PE teacher had 2 pair of 8 oz. gloves in his office. If you were caught fighting, you had to go 3 timed rounds with him reffing. He had been a fleet boxing champ in the Navy. If you didn't fight hard enough, he'd get in your face and say, "I thought you was a man. I didn't know you was a pussy." How would that go today?

I don't think kids fight much anymore. Most kids "fight" on social media, and the thugs just shoot each other. A good fist fight is not the end of the world, and we'd be better off if that was how kids settled things sometimes. I blame us parents.

Aledo mid to late 80's. Fighting earned 3 licks. Tardy to class... 2 licks. You picked the paddle.

1. Standard paddle with holes. Benefit- You could hear it comming. My choice.
2. Parkay bball court strip sanded on edges and handle with holes. Nasty.
3. Wooden baseball bat sawed in 2 from the middle to the top of the barrel - sanded. Coaches favorite if you missed practice or screwed up in one of their classes. Made some big dudes tear up.... I never received this....

Sally Robeau was a two time national teacher of the year from my school. Yes that's correct, TWICE she was named the best teacher in America. The woman taught for 50 years. She had a paddle that had a NAME. It was called the Texas Tail Blazer. If she used it on you, you had to SIGN the paddle with a sharpie. It was made of English oak years before my time, by the shop teacher who was just as old as she was. It was dense but relatively light and had holes in it for aerodynamic purposes. The handle was made round like a baseball bat and was long enough to easily get two hands around it. She would one hand swing on the girls but boys got the two hand swing. She only had to whip my ass once and I wanted ZERO part of her after that. I'd never had my actual HEELS come up off the ground before that. She was lumberjack strong.

That woman could swing a fvcking paddle.

Kids today couldn't handle going to middle or high school back in my day. I have story after story of fist fights I got into, lost some won a lot more, but all were just part of life back then. You either fight or live as a victim. I always hated bullies, but I have to say they made me a tough SOB. I was never intimidated by them, mostly because i knew it was worse to let them push me around.

Teachers and coaches were also a lot different. My high school coaches were sadistic and I absolutely hated them for it. Again, if coaches today were like that, those coaches would get put in jail.

One of my high school friends is now the head football coach at my old high school. He laughs about how tough our coaches are versus how pussified the school system is now. And the parents are even worse.

I'm telling you, our society is so soft right now and the trend is getting worse.

Growing up in a "smaller" Texas town we got our fair share of licks.....but I tell what has stood out over the years......my sophomore year in HS the starting QB,RB,TE/DE, and myself were driving up and down on the "Drag". We were staying over at Brads (our QBs) house that night and we were being idiots drinking a little and just being idiot kids.....when Brad got pulled over for an illegal 'U" turn. The Police officer knew exactly who we were and asked if we had been drinking.....we admitted having a few beers and the police officer asked where we were going. We told him we were staying over a Brad's so he told us to head that way while he followed us. Man we were all talking about how everyone's parents were gonna kill us.....me...myself wasnt worried about it.....my dad passed away years before in a work accident and I lived with my mom....who was very lenient. Anyway....we pulled up to Brad's house and got out and the policeman gave us a lecture about how being football gods in a small town.... we should know better. Everyone was afraid of what their parents were gonna do....and the officer told us not to leave Brad's house for the rest of the night....and started to walk away. Brad asked him if he was gonna tell our parents and the officer smiled and said "No I'm not gonna tell your parents but you can damn be sure coach will know by Monday morning" I told him I would rather him tell my mom knowing nothing would come of it.....but it didnt happen. Come next practice we had our regular practice....right up till the end when coach said "There's a couple of you fellas that need to stay after....and you know who you are."
Man he jumped our Butts and we put on our little waited shoulder pads and ran Gassers till one by one we started cramping up and puking.....except for me. I kept running...exhausted...fading in and out of consciousness lol....untill I was the only one left. Coach comes over and tells me....." when you puke.....we will be done" I have never puked at a practice ever and I replied "coach I dont puke" and he kindly replied back to me "well son.....you ARE today" I ran gassers for nearly 2hrs until I puked for the first time ever. We also got the wrath of our parents after Coach kindly let them know we were suspended the next game. There is a lot of memories good and bad in High School.....but I still to this day wake up sweating....legs cramping.....having nightmares about this day......but I wouldn't change a thing about it. I think now days you get like a 30 minute timeout or something.

Thing is, the euros, etc. are even softer. So we're the biggest midgets.

Austin Police back in the day were pretty cool, they drove cars that had no lights on them, when they pulled ya over they just put a Red Spotlight on the dashboard, we'd be out crusin and drinking and get stopped on they sit all our asses on the curb while they searched and got the beer and told us to pour all that shit out at the curb and then get our asses home and if they caught us out again the night they would take our ass to jail, back no MIP ticket, but, them was the Old school cops, they tell ya to sit in the car , your ass was sitting in the car no questions asked, respect was huge back then or ya get ya ass whipped with a FlapJack...these young Cops too Gung Ho now days, but then its worst today then yesterday, Street racing down Guadalupe and down the drag every night from light to light and out on 620 at Volente Rd to the Dam, up Bull Creek rd, Never , ever try to go down Bull Creek rd on a Skatboard drunk at night, old skatboards was a flat Board with Roller Skates tack to them, hit 1 pebble and ya ass is flying and the pavement will scrape the skin off ya ass, Got all my Hot Rod tips from "Hands " out on Barton Springs rd garage, that guy knew everything and was a Drag racer himself

Too funny, I have a similar story.

Some of my buddies were joy riding doing stuff they weren't supposed to. it was our QB, and a few other guys from the team. Egging cars, trashing lawns and playing baseball with mail boxes. I'm riding with one of my other buddies in his brand new 1986 Monte Carlo SS, back in the day this was a sweet ride. When all of a sudden a car coming the opposite direction lobs a egg and hits his windshield. My buddy goes into a rage and does a jake brake and goes after him. To this day I've never seen this guy that upset, he was in tears he was so mad. He worked construction for two summers saving money for that car. I was bracing myself for a fight that was coming.

We lost them for a bit but caught up with them, they had been pulled over by a couple of cops who just so happened to be from the area. My buddy skids to a stop gets out walks past the cop and grabs one of them by the throat and 4 cops are trying to separate him from the guys in the car. When everyone was separated and stories began to be explained. The cops assured my buddy justice was about to happen. Not 10 minutes later, my head football coach shows up. and he is pissed,

Those dudes had to replace every mailbox wash cars and were killed every day after practice.

I knew as soon as my coach arrived it would have been better for them to have gone to jail. My QB was also a track guy, so he was a really good athlete. He told me that every day coaches ran them so hard after practice they were throwing up. He said he got to the point they were purposefully eating a lot so they would throw up sooner.
