Ok, had to have my 14 year old Carrier Infinity , serviced and capacitor replaced last week. My technician started telling me about a new refrigerant type goes into effect 1/1/25. He’s suggesting that I think about replacing my older unit now, and that current refrigerant R410A supply will still be available for the life of the new unit. Should this be considered? Is he just pressing for a quick sale?

My house is 2700 sf, one story. He’s quoting me $12,560 for a 5 ton , 14.3 seer Trane (single stage) compressor and furnace , total cost. Sounds high to me , but haven’t priced them in awhile.

He also mentioned that my current wiring is oversized, and that the new compliant units manufactured in 2025 require a smaller gauge wiring , and that if I wait, that will have to be replaced and could be costly.

Is he shooting me straight??? Would it make sense to put my 14 year old system down?
I’m in the Houston area, Btw.

I’d appreciate any thoughts and/or advice.

Thanks!
