OT: Japan

Japan was brought to its knees. After decades of compliance (something Iran would likely never do) Japan was allowed to rebuild its military infrastructure in order to help the west keep china in check.

perhaps the country with the worst historical record is England. They have shown that they will expand and takeover where ever and when ever they had the opportunity. Pretty damned high on the atrocity scale as well.
I was on a train from London to Manchester some years ago and it was about the time the whole Gitmo/water boarding ordeal was going down.

A Brit saw my Texas hat and took it upon himself to try and get cute and ask me "where do you yanks get off thinking that torture is acceptable?"

I leaned over the aisle of the train and said to him, with a very straight face "I really enjoyed my tour at the Tower of London yesterday."

Thus our conversation ended.

FBH, our worry is China, not Japan. China is Japan's worry as well. After WWII Japan renounced offensive warfare and was limited to Self Defense Forces. The Japanese constitutionally prohibited expeditionary warfare. With the recent rise of China and their aggressive posturing throughout the Far East, Japan has re-evaluated their passive stance. Japan's fleet has been built back up and I don't have to tell you, the Japanese have a much better track history with naval ops than do the Chinese. In any conflict with China, I definitely want the Japanese on our side.

This is like saying segregation should come back because the founding fathers had slaves.

I know this isn't a real clob story because you forgot about the part where you banged the hot british girl who turned out to be semi-royalty but broke her heart by telling her you're a stallion that can't be tamed.

Spain worse IMO

A case could certainly be made, but the Brits destroy them on the recent atrocity scale. Within the lifetimes of some people posting on this board, they presided over a famine that killed millions in what is presently eastern India and Bangladesh (1943), and they systematically tortured and murdered tens of thousands of people in Kenya (1950s).

Second guy this week to bang on Clob. Treat it like a super hero movie. It doesn't matter if it's true. As long as it's entertaining be happy and move along. And he tells a hell of a story. Keep it up.

Probably the most entertaining poster since Shulz left. He was the best or maybe the worst. But that guy could draw a crowd. Even a lesser could enjoy his adolescent rants. Whatever happened to that guy? Hope he is ok.

England forced the Chinese to become opium addicts. When the Chinese revolted over it, it wasnt pretty.

Short of taking someone prisoner, you can never make them addicts. What the Brits did was to fight for the right to sell an addicting substance. Ironic that the fentanyl involved in so many overdoses now comes from China. While I'm at it, the opioid "crisis" was created by university medical professors here who convinced the JCAH that "pain management" should be mandated and physicians disciplined for failure to provide adequate relief.

you might be right, but what I read was that they more or less forced a fair amount of people to spend time in those opium dens. The English of course had a monopoly on the product.

Chiang Kai Shek was installed as head of the Nationalist government by the Green Gang, which monopolized the opium trade in the 20th century. He had several political opponents taken prisoner, then given heroin to make them addicts. They were lucky, others were strangled by Chiang's personal executioner. He was said to take up to 45 minutes. Chiang liked to watch.

I am talking about way before Chaing Kai Shek. Chaing got his blue print from the jolly Brits
