Got a friend here that's going to SA with his finance and I need to know a good Mexican restaurant, not high class but, good food and Long-necks...TY in advance, he picks her up from Airport North side

Yes, Casa Rio is on the Riverwalk. It is not expensive. Very moderately priced by today's standards. Tell them to get the chili con carne!

Do you believe I ate at this place with a Gov voucher while I was waiting to go to basic at El Paso during Vietnam, that's how long its been there,,,

Los Barrios off Blanco.

It's the real deal.
Los Barios is off of Redland Rd. I live about 1 mile from it. Great food, live music. Won't kill your wallet.

Rio Rio on the Riverwalk is the best place down town.

Best hidden gem, Thousand Oaks Cafe, but they only do breakfast and lunch. At the corner of Thousand Oaks and Perrin Bietal Rd.

Those are my recommendations if you are not going to the bad sides of town.

Wuh?

hell....these guy are too damned rich for my blood. I like Casa Del Sol on Ramsey at San Pedro....right around from the airport. If you want damned good but a little more upscale go to Sol Luna on Broadway just inside the loop

I grew up a couple of blocks from Blanco Cafe and went to school with the kids of the people who owned Los Barrios and Blanco Cafe. I ate at both places a lot growing up. We would do taco runs at Blanco Cafe at night that I swear looked like drug deals. Pull up to the back screen door by the kitchen. Buddy gets out of my 1985 dodge, goes and knocks on the back door, gets handed a paper bag full of tacos. Anyway both are really good but its San Antonio. Throw a dart on a map and you are likely to hit a half way decent mexican food place.

I don't think I have ever been to Blanco Cafe, I'm going to have to try them. I grew up on the Northeast side, about a stone's throw from Thousand Oaks Cafe, they are my go to place for breakfast and lunch. Still meet my dad there once a week.

Curious, Oldhorn, did you have a bad experience at Hacienda De Los Barrios, I've never had a bad meal there and there always seems to be good live entertainment. Worst part for me is the long lines to get in.

As was mentioned above, this is San Antonio, I can name about another dozen Mexican restaurants that are really good we haven't talked about.

Mittmen's on Mittmen rd.
Patty's on Hackberry rd
Ruben's on Rigsby - Tamales.
Gloria's in the RIM, however they are $$$ and much more than Mexican, it's more Central American food, but it's damn good.
