Be getting out of Navy in 6 months, becoming off the Carrier in 3 months, decided not to reenlist, turns out he got a appointment to join the Washing State Highway Patrol in 7 months when new academy class starts, he's been a MAA and they recruited him before he left and then sent him a acceptance letter, part of heart gonna be living Wash State now..He's tired from the long deployment , he's gave some yrs to our country so why not way I think....I think also these young kids are getting tired of fighting someone else's war too, he said the reenlistments have been falling for a while now also, the deployments have been getting longer and longer,,,I think he will make a fine Highway guy for them at 6 ft 6 and 245, I am so proud of him as well as my other kids, he will be the 3rd and last home so I got all my boys safe now, but, my heart goes out to the parents that didn't get theirs back

So if he stays in the navy for 20 years he gets free VA and Tri-care for the rest of his life.

Not a bad thing because healthcare is getting very expensive. If he takes a state job, do his military years count toward his state retirement and benefits in Washington?

Doubtful.

Doubt it crosses over but if you work for the government or State your probably gonna get good retirement benefits. Always said I was gonna retire at 55 but now after the last Company Sell off I get nothing but my 401k when I leave. Congrats and thank you FB for your sons service!

To me Navy is the toughest service to do. Those long trips out to sea take it's toll on family life. Easiest is of course Air Force. My buddy who put in 20 in the Air Force biggest gripe was the base golf courses were too busy.

I have a feeling he isn't going to like working as a police officer in Washington. I was watching a documentary on the state of law enforcement in that state and in particular Seattle. Long story short, that state is run by a bunch of Liberals who do not allow police to do their job. Crime in Seattle is exploding because of vagrants and the police are powerless to stop them. Literally arrest them, book them, and let them go.

It could be a stepping stone for him to other oppertunes, maybe a Wildlife Officer up there, who knows, he's gotta work it not me...lol The only partI don't like is me and ma can't see them much way up there, but as long as he's happy that's all I care about, the Love will always be there...I do miss my fishing buddy though!

He told me that making rank is hard in the Navy and 18 mo deployments and things they promise you when you join sometimes disappear, the best moment he ever has in the Navy is when you go up the ramp of the COD to go home, when that catapult hits and your up, its a great feeling of relief ya going home and the worst time is landing on the boat on the COD in a thunderstorm...he said that would rattle ya shit!...LOL He said most think the Fighter pilots are hot shit and they are but a COD pilot is right up there with them and them Baby AWACs drivers also

I had a old uncle who put in over 20 in the Navy, he never got married and he told me it's because for those 20+ years all he did was fvck his way from port to port. For the longest time I thought he was gay, but turns out he finally got married to a woman. She happened to be 12 years his younger and gave him a son. Guess I was wrong.

Well said, FBH, and you have a very good reason to be proud of your grandson. All the best to him, and please thank him for his service.
