Good morning OB's...

Wanted to reach out for some advice on Tampa Bay area. Going next year with 5 total guys for Cowboy-Buccaneers game (yes, hope we can go by then).

We are all married, mid-40's, wanna offer some things to help as you recommend...thanks everyone in advance.

1) Want to stay on the beach, or dang close.
2) Can use VRBO/AirbNb/or any site
3) Looking for nightlife area and cool beach with a vibe, don't want to be in a sleepy area. Would prefer an area to go to the beach during the day and some cool beach bars at night.
4) Walkable area preferred...trying to avoid driving as much as possible. So beach and bars in one area would be great.

Also...anything you wanna offer as far as things to do while we're there are appreciated. We're thinking of renting a fishing boat one day perhaps...but other than that, anything you can offer would be great.

For your trouble...Salma, on the beach.

Thanks

Clearwater Beach is exactly what you described. Beautiful beaches and good bar scene at night.

The Sandpearl Resort is the best spot for beach access and puts you right in the middle of the nightlife, but it's very pricey.

The Wyndham Grand and Hyatt Regency would also be good options. They aren't ON the beach but right across the street. They are also very walkable to the bar scene.

It would probably be worth searching for private rentals (vrbo, AirBnb) in Clearwater Beach but I'm not familiar with anything specific.

I'm about 15 mins from Clearwater Beach and very familiar with area so let me know if you have any questions.

great info. from everyone so far...
I'll check on the resorts as well as the AirBnB scene.

Clearwater Beach for sure. If you look for a smaller bar to have some beers/cocktails and maybe a grouper sandwich or burger, try one of Frenchy’s places.

No need for a hotel - just rotate amongst airport - berns - mons - golf courses (old memorial if you can get access) - beach...not necessarily in that order

Makes me think of my dad. Everytime he would come home frustrated from work, the first thing out of his mouth was “i’m selling out, we’re moving to Tampa. I'm going to open a one-kind-of-beer and one-kind-of-hotdog stand in Clearwater beach”

Drink some bourbon and rub a few out. That’s about the only thing to do other than the actual game. If your buddies are in the room, don’t make eye contact when engaged in the latter.

Like the bourbon part...

and the latter might be better served late at night. But never a bad idea

“maybe rub one out...toniiiiiight...cuz I can hardly wait to find out, just what is on Mike’s mind”

Wyndham Grand. Lenny's for breakfast, dont miss it. Do not stay at sirata, that would be a disaster. Don Cesar if you stay at St Pete beach but as the posters mentioned Clearwater is your better option. If you want real nightlife you will need to stay near South Tampa near where Berns is located. You can probably just uber over to south Tampa for one night or two but the nightlife will be far different in south Tampa relative to what you will find on Clearwater beach. I've lived in Tampa for 30 years.

Yep Clearwater is the place. We stay at the Sandpearl and love it. We’ve have stayed there on three separate occasions with the most recent just this past summer. Great places to eat with bars everywhere. Great beach town.

And like most have said Frenchys on the beach next to the Sandpearl is a great bar and grill. Get the grouper sandwich.

Mons Venus

Bern’s
2nd the Bern's nomination. I remember the wine list was as big as a small town phone book. If you have fish it is downstairs swimming as you order it. But you have to have the beef.

I've done a couple of father/son weekends with some neighborhood friends to tampa specifically to watch Buc's games (they're from there and fans). I like staying in St Pete's. Some good restaraunts and bars in the downtown area. The Dali museum is awesome. We also combine with going to Ray's games. I'd suggest that at all if you are baseball fans and the schedule works.

Great hotel...

Great bar near tropicana stadium...

Raymond James stadium is not in a "fun" area at all. Better to stay in St Pete's or clearwater and uber in.

Have fun!!!

Sandpearl is the nicest hotel. The Hilton, Wyndham and Hyatt all have hotels right on the beach.

The food options on Clearwater Beach arent great,

I like the Hilton Clearwater. Walking distant to most restaurants and easy ride over to Columbia for another good dinner.

Clearwater Beach. Tampa is on the bay. All you'all need to do is shoot across 60 out of the airport to the beach. But don't miss the mons venus in Tampa. @Anwar Richardson is probably the expert on the area
Stay at Tom’s house. He will let anyone stay.

I prefer St. Pete. The bars on the beach are hopping (Postcard Inn, Jimmy B’s) all day with live music and some of the hottest barely dressed girls you will ever see.
Downtown St. Pete is full of bars and restaurants that are all walkable with an Uber ride.

We booked the Epicurian Hotel Steak-cation offer when we went to Bern's. The hotel is right across the street from Bern's so makes it very easy to walk back to your hotel after dinner. If you go to Bern's email one of the sommeliers and they can tell you the wines that are drinking great right now. Make sure you get a tour of the onsite cellar

One more note about Bern's....the interior design may be described as 19th Century Bordello.
