I grew up on a steady diet of Country & Western (my dad), show tunes (my mom), and Rock (my peers). I got pretty burned out with the directions that both rock and country — the music I had grown up with — took in the 1990s. I started then listening instead to a lot of classical when some close friends’ daughter turned out to be a cello prodigy and started “dragging” us to classical concerts. To my surprise, I loved it and have ever since. In more recent years, my “morning music” has been jazz classics (like Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Ella Fitzgerald and Sinatra, Herb Alpert ). Still like classic “traditional” country and classic rock, but really glad I fortuitously branched out over time too.
