How many imitators will this inspire? Headed to the grocery store now. 🤣

From Axios:

Sotheby's is set to auction off a conceptual artwork of a banana duct-taped to a wall tomorrow, with an estimated price of $1 million to $1.5 million.

• Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan's "Comedian" debuted at Art Basel Miami in 2019 and caused a stir over the nature of art and commentary. It sold then for $120,000.

• The work is literally a banana from a grocery store, taped to a wall.

🖼️ Between the lines: Even at the low end of Sotheby's estimates, the banana taped to the wall has risen in price by at least 733%.

• Simply buying a pound of bananas at the store, however, has only gotten about 4 cents more expensive over the same period, Axios' Ben Berkowitz notes.
