I’ve read enough posts where they write, “send him to the main board to get a whipping” etc. it’s funny. I’ll prefer this board way more because I rather run with guys who can kick some butt vs the country club types.

I did the pay board for a year a while back. I take a peek fairly often to see the titles of their threads. I find them pretty interesting because they talk about so many different topics and there were many knowledgeable guys from different walks of life. That is what I liked most and also the reason I tried it out. The thing I liked least is several posters will start a brand new thread on a topic where there is already a couple of active threads. $99/year is not a bad deal, but I didn't renew because I was more drawn to this board
Must be around a decade now since I let my longtime sub lapse. I enjoyed the OB premium board in the mid-2000s, but by 2010 the signal-to-noise ratio was so f*cked that I no longer had any interest. Too many serial sh*tposters treating OB as their diary (or alternative to drunk-dialing), and not even a little bit of moderation to rein the dumbest of them in. I suppose that's part of the attraction for some folks.
I tried a few other premium boards (IT, 247, and whatever Higdon's site was called) for a year or two at a time, but none of them held my interest enough to keep me around for the long term. Ultimately, all of the info these sites offer is available for free elsewhere these days, and I didn't spend enough time on any of them for the "community" aspect to mean much to me.

You mentioned IT. I used to subscribe to that newsletter that I would receive in the mail. I can't remember the guy's name who founded it. I think early 90s.
One of the owners offered me a free year on the paid board a few years ago. I politely declined. I also turned down joining frats when I was in college. I don't believe in paying for the attention or company of my peers.
I used to subscribe to IT as well. It was owned by Robert Heard. He sold it in his later years and has since passed.
You mean, like during game day, when someone on the team makes a tremendous play, .. you see about 15-20 threads started within a couple of minutes of each other. All saying the same thing, ... "M'fk'king (insert Horns player here) is a beast" or something along those lines.
I come on here just to read the content of the free boarders. I originally joined OB's on the free board first back in '01 to follow the Blalock recruitment. It was the free board. So, it was hard to hear of the premium content. Yet, there were smidgens of relevant 'little birdy' info that one could surmise as positive or negative content.
I then decided to get the premium content back in '07 and went with a new OB handle name. Haven't regretted it one bit. I recognize @HornSolo and @HornNation101 from Inside the 40. Both Army guys. Lookin' forward to the CiC deciding game on 07 Nov with them. They know what i mean.
The Main Board is the main board where all college boards are combined. They are ruthless there. One slip up and they will post your home address, send unlimited pizza orders, have garage sales setup and out every bit of your personal information. This board would be referred to as the JV board.
Lol, this board is a good core group of guys we have been posting here for some time. However if we wanted to be ruthless we could be a pretty scary bunch. Yes, we have some computer nerds that can post all your personal information. However, we don't because it reflects poorly on the poster than the guy getting his info posted.

I have been on here and the paid board for a long time. Maybe 2005. I gave up my sub this month after all the BS posted.
Surly is the Varsity... of snowflakes. I got banned over there because the little boys can't handle common sense. That place is Sodom and Gomorrah.

I just got tired of the political BS, expect it in the corral but not on the 40. Plus a couple of mods felt free to state there politics and stir the pot so to speak but when you did you were sent to Siberia for a week .
We haven't had too much politics here historically. I think this year we saw a spike because of the obvious election and there's some intense feelings on both sides. Couple that with the fear of covid for some and we've had our share of witches brew here--- in fairness it's from time to time.
In retrospect, I think it boils down to some folks wanting other folks to do things for the "greater good" and some folks just wanting to be left alone and not have anyone dictate anything to them.
And I can see both sides.
But enough about that.

Mainly over the Eyes fiasco that is ongoing. There are some factions standing up for the players and it becomes a pissing match that dissolves into racial arguments.
The other issue is anyone that claims to have some type of knowledge about the future of TH gets shouted down. There are guys on there that are legends for having sources and being in the know who get bashed by newer members who have no clue.
My main reason is purely personal in that I am saddened that politics and racial tensions have taken away the joy of watching the sports teams I love. So paying another 99 a year to Ketchum and his political rants wasn't going to happen.
Most of the millennial snowflakes don't make it here long. You'll see.... something is happening next Tuesday.
