Hearing all the talking heads not giving us a chance next week made me think back to 2009.

In the SEC CG, Bama beat #1 Florida handily in what many considered the de facto national championship game. People were basically already crowning Bama after that performance.

Meanwhile, Texas looked like anything but a national champion in barely escaping heavy underdog Nebraska in the Big 12 CCG. Hunter Lawrence kicked the game winner as the final second ticked off, a play that some said should not have even been allowed after time had originally expired. The Texas offense looked anemic throughout the game, while Ndamukong Suh played like the best player in the country. But when their back was against the wall, Colt and the offense drove down for the winning score.

You couldn’t blame so many for assuming it was a foregone conclusion Bama would hoist the BCS trophy.

But the reality is that talentwise Texas matched Bama pound for pound. Being a heavy underdog gave us focus, much like it had in the Rose Bowl four years earlier. I’ll always believe our A game was in front of us that night, until the Colt injury.

I feel like something similar is brewing next Friday (sans the injury).
