Petition to get better pass fakes from SB

I am starting this petition to draw awareness to one thing: our QB, talented though he may be, needs to carry out a better pass fake after handing off the ball.

Shane, you're a good kid- I respect what you've done thus far--- but my man-- that fake is ass my bro!

You gotta SELL that safety that you've still got the ball. Act like you're hiding it on your back hip or something. Look down field. Bounce on your toes like you're about to throw, and when you DO make that fake throw, do a better job of it. Right now you look like Marsha brady brushing her hair after a shower. You look like you're trying to give Steve Williams a high five. Are there flies on the field? You "shooing" them out of your ear?

It's the little things son-- I hope enough people sign this petition to get you convinced you need a proper play fake....

I posted a message very similar to this about John Chiles years ago and got torched by the longhorn faithful! Maybe because I titled it "Dear John". Mostly very humorous responses in my roasting, but lesson learned. Of course, he did end up not panning out as a QB. Shane's a different story. I suppose since you played at Texas, the response you get will be much different.

As I have stated before Shane is a freshman and I think he will learn the little things as he plays the game more.My main concern is he reading the defenses correctly and throwing the ball where the receivers can catch it.Can he execute Gilberts game Plan? Sure,he can get more polish as time goes on.

It is a risk,but if a hole is open,then he should take it. The great teams of Texas had QB's who could run,(Street,Young,Mccoy).The run is part of his game.

Yea, but, you have to consider "risk vs benefit". I don't see a huge benefit especially with the quality backfield.

Good point, but his overriding goal as a QB is to move the chains in Gilberts offense.1st down after 1st down,You cannot think you might get hurt.The QB run is just another weapon.

I think he will get those little things as he continues to devlope. He's futher along than most and because of that I think the coaching staff will start emphsing the little things. He's ovbiously got the larger concepts down.

He will get it evidently without ya'll telling him, trouble with all you young Horns ya gotta have it now just like ya Generation, last yr it was Swoopes and before Case, ya can't play for him, its probably already been brought to his attention! He is doing pretty good in my book despite starting and being a Frosh and in time he will be better...

In this offense, you've got to pull it every now and then to keep the D-end from crashing down on your tailback . . . Especially in formations where there's no threat of a counter or reverse. I don't like seeing him run it either, but the threat sure makes things better for Foreman and Warren.

This! To me that's a bigger concern. STOP running SB unless he's doing it on his own to escape the pocket. I get nervous every time he runs the ball.

Mehhh...I get your point but...

To me this is no big deal and is actually what a lot of coaches are teaching now-a-days. We teach it to be a fast motion for several reasons:
1) Tempo tempo tempo- you sling it fast your pump fake should be fast, it doesn't need to be pretty.
2) Don't take unnecessary hits- DL will light a QB up if the QB is carrying out a good pump fake and the refs will let it play out because the QB is an extension of the run play in a play fake.
3) Freeze the $ or LB- Just trying to slow the defense down a step to get them out of position and run support.

FWIW I understand where your coming from and yes he can clean it up a little. But it's nothing to worry about. (or sign a petition over) HAHA

Hey, it's refreshing to see a Texas QB execute a fake of any kind. As any OB regular knows, I can still remember Chris Simms handing off the ball and then all 6'4" of him stopping & turning to telegraph each and EVERY running play! It was like he wanted to penalize Greg Davis for rushing the ball. (Yeah, Chris, I'm still angry about that, even after the spleen thing.)

Maybe before every game, Shane should get his wrists and hands Henna-tattooed brown? Leave white stripes and add gold Nike stickers? Would that make you happy, clob? (That's actually a great idea. White ball carriers should definitely do that. )
