On Sundays - there is one rule, you MUST win. Yes, the 16 game winning streak that the Horns have enjoyed is over after a Saturday night loss to the Pokes in which Long Beach State transfer and potential future 1st round draft pick Juaron Watts-Brown carved up the Horns, tallying 12 Ks through 8 IP.

Now is not the time for Texas to get down on their hitting performance though as they were in the game the entire evening. The Horns need to collect themselves and come out ready to hit the ball and play good defense. The good news is that the Horns are not going to see the top two arms for the Pokes in Watts-Brown or even bullpen guy Isaac Stebens. Depending upon his shoulder/ankle, there is a possibility that RHP/CF Nolan McLean will not be available either, though I would not count on it. Instead the Horns get another right hander in the form of Brian Hendry who has a 5.59 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and has batters hitting .293 against him. Those are not numbers or stuff that Texas needs to be afraid of.

The goal for Texas is simple enough, win, though they will need to do so on the road against a solid team in Oklahoma State that has a lot of good hitters and solid arms. The payoff is Texas would be sitting very pretty atop the Big 12 standings after having played two of the best teams in the Big 12 this season. Everything is there for the taking!

Matchup:
Date: April 2nd
Time: 1 pm
Where: O'Brate Stadium (Stillwater, OK)
TV: Big 12 Now on ESPN+
Radio: 104.9 FM The Horn/1260 AM

Record:
Texas: 20-8 (4-1 Big 12)
Oklahoma State: 21-7 (5-3 Big 12)

Pitching Matchup:
Texas TBA vs. Oklahoma State RHP Brian Hendry (1-0, 5.59 ERA, 1.50 WHIP)
---Coach Pierce will turn to either RHP Charlie Hurley (2-0, 1.86 ERA, 1.00 WHIP) or RHP Lebarron Johnson Jr (3-1, 2.97 ERA, 1.25 WHIP)

Hendry is a tall (6'4") junior from New Jersey who has been solid for the Pokes, but not special. Hendry transferred to Oklahoma State from St. John's where he did not play in 2022 due to an injury and in his three seasons with the Red Storm, posted a 3-3 record with a 6.18 ERA in 20 appearances. In his last outing against Baylor, he went just 3 innings, giving up 7 runs on 7 hits. The weekend before that he went 5.1 innings against Texas Tech giving up 3 runs on 5 hits.

The good news for the Horns is outside of Sam Walbridge and possibly Andre Duplantier, the entire bullpen is available for the Horns. Zane Morehouse and David Shaw are both available after only throwing 20 and 15 pitches respectively on Friday, so if Coach Pierce wants to, he can really utilize his entire arsenal to try and keep the Okie State batters off balance.
