Summary:
NO easy day! The Horns won a massive conference series this weekend against Texas Tech and are currently riding a 14 game winning streak, but the work and challenges never end. Up next, the Horns take to the road again, this time against those pesky neighbors to the East (Texas A&M) and then turn around and head North to face off against Oklahoma State. The biggest attribute the Horns have shown this season so far is resiliency. No matter what the situation or score, the Horns have continued to battle. Everyone has to remember that this is a very young team and that they are still learning how to win and what it takes to win day in and day out. Players on the team are still making adjustments to realize results, a great example of this is Jared Thomas who adjusted his lower half motion and went without batting gloves on Sunday and lo and behold, he gets his first HR of the season and a single later on. Coach Pierce had mentioned earlier that Thomas was swinging a wet noodle at the plate due to his hips and losing all contact power, that has been adjusted. Another example of making adjustments is Rylan Galvan, who came to Texas with a reputation of a big bopper. After a period of time out due to illness in the Fall and a slow adjustment to college pitching this Spring, Galvan has seemingly turned a corner and has begun to display the power that he is known for during his time at Sinton High School. Having a guy like him in the lineup is massive because now the lineup has the ability to produce for power and numbers throughout regularly. That is especially true of USC transfer Garret Guillemette. He said that he had been gripping the bat too tightly and had to make some adjustments to take a looser stance and approach which has seemingly unlocked his natural power which has been evident the past few games.

Regardless of competition, the Horns have to continue doing what they have. Make small adjustments to get a little bit better every day. That is the path to success. At the same time, Texas fans have to understand that the Big 12 is going to be similar to basketball in many ways and should expect a blood bath with regards to outcomes every weekend. No team is going undefeated and there is going to be a lot of topsy turvy moments due to the amount of parity.

As a side note - take a look at that swing by Galvan and compare that to the swing of Melendez.....the future is bright!

Weekend Recap:
What a weekend! The Horns did not make it easy on themselves and it was not always pretty, but at the end of the day, the Red Raiders drive back to Lubbock having been swept and the Horns kick off conference play with a perfect record. The last time that the Longhorns swept Texas Tech was 2007, so sweeps are not something that comes easy when playing an opponent like Tech. The win this weekend also snaps a two year streak of series losses by the Horns to the Red Raiders, with the last series win coming back in 2019 (COVID season of 2020 excluded).

Overall the pitching staff was a bit of a mixed bag this weekend with Lucas Gordon, Zane Morehouse (x2), Lebarron Johnson Jr and Charlie Hurley all limiting Tech in hits and runs.

From a hitting stand point, each game had a stand out player that really helped propel the Horns forward which speaks to the model that this team is built on. Porter Brown on Friday, Dylan Campbell on Saturday and the trio of Powell, Thomas and Guillemette on Sunday helped bring home the series sweep. In addition, the Horns were able to cut down the number of strikeouts this weekend as compared to prior outings (2 on Friday, 8 on Saturday and 6 on Sunday).

In case you missed all the action, here is a link to the Sunday recap which also has links to the Friday and Saturday recaps as well - Sunday Recap

A&M did bounce back with wins over Rice and Texas Tech in the Shriners Classic, kicking off a 8 game win streak.
