Years ago our pitching coach described our pitching staff as having pitchers and throwers.
Pitchers had control of their body and release and throwers had less control and tried
to see just how hard they could throw. He pointed out the importance of the pitchers using
his team mates to help get outs. When you walk a batter it is just giving up a single in most
cases. I am no pitching coach but I would stress making the batters hit their way on and
give my team mates a shot at getting them out. Our staff needs to become
pitchers not throwers.
