The final score, who has the most points in the end, doesn't determine the winner. Whichever team wins the most quarters should be the determining factor.

Split a football game into five 12 minute quarters. The break/Halftime can either come after the second or third quarter. I'm thinking second to be explained later.

First team to 3 points wins the game. One point awarded for each quarter, and whoever wins the quarter gets the point. It doesn't matter if a team wins the quarter by a point or 20 points, they get one point. If each team has won one of the first two quarters, and the meaningless total score is 30-14, each team still has one point. Any tie after a quarter, each team gets awarded 1/2 point.

The final score could be 45-28, but if the team that scored the twenty eight wins three quarters, they are the winner of the game. A "w" goes into their column, and the losing team, which scored more total points, gets the loss.

If it is 2.5 - 2.5 after the five quarters, one more quarter is played to determine the winner.

I'm thinking the break after two Qs because, if one team wins the first two Qs, the other team gets the chance to regroup with the break. If out of the break, the other team wins its third quarter, game over.

I'm thinking the same thing with baseball, and whoever wins the most innings is the winner. A ten run inning is awarded one point. Nine innings, first team to 5 points wins.
