PSA: With potential rolling blackouts, ERCOT urges turn off every non-necessary electrical connection . . .

No. Their rates are fixed, set by a regulatory agency. We all will pay down the road with slightly higher rates. But you are not exposed to spot market prices. (Assuming this is residential)
That's not correct. The energy costs are passed along to the consumer.

The morons that are keeping their thermostats at 77 are not helping with these power outages. Probably 55 in my house right now with the power out and dropping. Stop being idiots please, there’s a reason they ask us to do this.

Yeah our power is out too. With 2 young kids not I’m not overly excited. Shit needs to come back on soon

we are rolling power outages now!!! As is everyone in the state including aep dropping loads. Started started around 230 am. taylor electric started cutting power yesterday

No power here in New Braunfels. Lots of elderly in my neighborhood. Lost around 5:00 AM

Ours lasted 45 minutes in New Braunfels. Just came back on. Lowered everything to try to conserve

Can someone help me with the math here? How is everyone more off than on? The excess demand can’t be that high, right? I totally get the need but how is it not off 10-20% of the time?

Out since 2 am here in Houston.
Starting to think this isn’t a rolling blackout, but that we actually lost power.

First thing I did when the electricity came back on was to make my coffee.

First world problems.

every breaker in our system is handling more amps than rated, so even with rolling outs the other circuits are still overloaded. slowly but surely tryin to regain power

Yup, 2 little ones here too. Power out since 2:30. I got the fireplace going again and we are hanging out in front of it having a good time.

There goes ours again at 6:07 AM. Only had it back for 20-30 minutes.

Did get my coffee

It's been over 5 hours and counting. It's been reported online and on the phone.

We were down 2.5 hours on our last (5-7:30 or so). Back up since then...heat creeping back up.

Pool pump came right back on though. We’ll see if it lasts.

Crazy.

Never thought going back to see family In Wisconsin (where wind chills are hitting -30) would actually keep me warm.

Yep. No power here either. Three layers and still shivering, and the gas is off so can’t even cook in the stove.

That sounds miserably hot. Heat should never ever be set above 70.
that was my first thought as well. My heater is usually set at 66, sometimes we will do the upstairs to 68 but that is as high as it goes. I guess I also just assumed most didn't use electric to heat.
