I don't know right now who really has the power in UT athletics. Fenves and Perrin just finished their first year. Perrin only has a two year contract. What kind of personalities do they have?

I can make a case that being ad at UT is one of the ten toughest jobs in the country. Perrin needs to have an alpha male personality, and so does Fenves. GF has to deal with a BOR appointed by a governor who was obsessed with diminishing the academic stature of UT.

Which alums have the most influence now? Jamail is dead, McCombs is 88, hopefully that sob Moffett is being kept at a distance.

I would appreciate input from people who can provide accurate information.

Keep in mind Admiral McRaven is now the Chancellor and that position is who deals with the BOR and legislature the most. Gov. Abbott is a UT alumni and the three Perry appointed pain in the asses; Cranberg, Hall, and Pejovich's terms all end in 9 months.

Interesting, and while I don't doubt you my family says that Admiral McRaven is a figurehead. And I didn't know that Greg Abbott went to UT. However, my family said that GA told President Powers that he would not appoint regents with a Rick Perry type of agenda Thank goodness for that.

The Chancellor is over the whole UT system. McRaven would never have accepted a figurehead position. That doesn't mean that Perry wasn't trying to make it such. Which is pretty much why Cigarroa left.

Some info on the Chancellor's role.

Here is video of McRaven addressing, and getting grilled by, the Texas State Senate Committee on Higher Education hearing from last week. Go to the 2:58:30 mark.
