Re-watch Texas vs ou

youre still thinking of Murphy as Swoopes or VY because hes big and black. The dude isnt mobile. Red needs the job.

Murphy will put down his shoulder down and run you over. I'll give him the ball with 1 yard or 2 yards to go. But Red I'm a fan of him cause he went to the high school I went too. He also played qb in high school, but was more of a runner.

Just finished the film.

Removing the emotion, this is a simple game to explain.

Texas out gained ou.
Texas out passed ou.
These out time of possession ed ou.
3rd down conversion were equal 5-14
Texas went 3-4 on 4th downs and ou went 0-1

Ou won in only 3 areas.
Rushing.

Ou qb went for 112.
Texas Brooks went for 129.
The collective OU backfield added another 88 yards. Not impressive numbers- but enough.

Penalties-- Texas shot their own toes off. 9 for 70 yards. Unacceptable.
Ou had just 4 for 30.

Turnovers. Texas 2 picks. 1 fumble.
Ou none.

The most devastating of these is the third. In a turnover free game, based on the average yards per play, Texas scores a minimum of 13 more points. Even if you leave the OU points on the board they benefited FROM the turnovers- Texas still wins this game by 2 scores.
Yes, Sark made some sh!tty play calls. Very sh!tty--- but even with those play calls, if Texas doesn't turn the ball over-- based simply on the mathematics of football-- Texas wins the game handily.

It's difficult to win a game against an average team with 3 turn overs. Ou is above average-- this isn't a "normal" game atmosphere.
Bottom line is-- we beat ourselves.
The area you mention OU winning...the winner of this game has always been historically the team that runs the ball better. We had more than you guys. Whether it's the QB or RB or WR, that doesn't matter. We ran well enough with our RBs to keep the chains moving.

DG had the most yards for us, but well over 1/3 of his yards came on one carry, that led to zero points for OU (we missed a FG). It flipped the field for us, but you drove the field and scored a TD right after that. It had zero impact on the game other than it gave us another first down.

Both teams played an excellent game. Both teams left points on the field. It's going to be a great rematch if both teams get to the CCG.

And hey @MiccoMacey Peyton Bowen is as good as advertised. And is Ted Roof better than I thought?

Man, Bowen's going to be a superstar. So glad we stole him from Notre Dame at the last moment.

Roof? Everything I hear is BV's calling the plays on defense. I think Roof's strength is that he knows the defense so well so he can help make sure it's run well in practice. But BV has said as much that he's making the calls (at least reading into some of his statements).

After last year Venables really needed this win our schools are going to the major leagues next year. After last year he has to show he's ready just like Sarkisian. I did notice that Oklahoma finished 6th in recruiting rankings last year I don't think many Texas fans did.

I was really impressed with how Oklahoma played in the Orlando bowl. They have a great history and they played with intensity they were determined that their school did not finish with a losing record they're definitely not going thru the motions. They lost but you couldn't question their effort.

DG had the most yards for us,

One thing I saw after the game, and it was kind of surprising, but Gabriel became the first quarterback in OU history to rush for over 100 yards and pass for over 250 yards in a game against Texas.

Yes but also the first qb among either team to do that in this game

No way?

VY? Colt?

I figured Jason White would’ve done that 250/100

Maybe, before his knee injuries. I thought Kyler Murray or Caleb Williams might have also done it, but I forgot Williams played less than half of the game. Murray came close with 92 rushing yards and 304 passing yards in the 2018 game. Jalen Hurts also came close in the 2019 game with 131 rushing yards, but he only had 235 passing yards.

Doooooo blocked punts count on the stat sheet as turnovers?
I don't think they do.

You're correct. The fact that they also count against OU's official team scoring defense stats is a joke. Same way with pick sixes and kickoff and punt return TD's. OU's defense only gave up 23 points in this game, but all 30 count in the official NCAA team scoring defense stats.
