Homeslice--- in the 2005 calendar year, Texas won a natty in football, baseball, went to and elite 8 in basketball, our softball team had Cat Osterman and went to the world series, our swim and dive team finished in the top three----

We aren't back there yet.

True, that was a great year, especially in the big 3 sports. But how were the other 8 sports teams doing. My point in this post is that pretty much across the board, all the programs are competing at a high level (except basketball unfortunately).

9 of 16 programs are either in the top 10 currently or finished the most recent season in the top 10. 12 of 16 in the top 15, and 15 of 16 in the top 25. That's pretty impressive.

I do think CDC will keep pushing all 16 programs towards national championships. He's improving facilities and coaches for each and every program - even the non-revenue programs.

Del Conte was a home run hire for Texas. The future looks very bright. The only ugly mark is the men's basketball program. Hopefully the needed changes will occur there in a year or two. Smart's contract is not a good thing for Texas.

CDC is pumping resources into all 16 programs. New facilities - both for games and training, raising the bar with coaching staffs. Interested to see where the non-revenue sports go over the next few years. Of course its the big 3 that really gets the headlines and I like what I see from football and baseball currently.

Shaka is on a very hot seat next year. Buyout becomes manageable and the results just haven't been there on the court so far. As I mentioned, thats the only program not consistently in the top 25.

The journey to the top is every bit as exciting as winning it all.

So, clearly the athletic department is aware that 15/16 programs are having a great amount of success. Does that put even more pressure on the 1 program not following suit? CDC has one program that needs to step it up, men's basketball.

Updated May 22: A few NCAA championships are wrapping up. Major sports need some work but all non-televised sports are having a lot of success - top 25 or 10 finishes across the board. Both Basketballs and Baseball need to step it up.

Updated May 29th: With Men's golf wrapping up a 2nd place finish, I wanted to update this in a new format. I have ranked the teams in terms of finish and also added some color coding. Burnt Orange for championships and then a Dark Green to Dark Red color gradient for teams performing at near championship levels to teams performing at a level that leads to coaches getting fired.

Disagree with my ranking or color coding, then feel free to comment below.

My take away is that we have a handful of teams performing consistently at championship/top 10, a handful at a top 25 level and then a few that really need to step it up. Unfortunately the 3 that need to improve drastically are the 2nd-4th most popular sports.

M Tennis

Did you highlight those two sports in that bright yellow so we couldn’t read them. That hurts my eyes man!

Updated the above with our Rowing team taking 2nd place in the NCAAs. Washington seems to be a step above the rest at this point but Texas has become one of the top 3-5 programs year in year out.

I think what is clear in the rankings is that if a school puts the resources into these smaller programs, they can quickly rise into the elite ranks. You can't buy success in the bigger sports, but you can in some of the less competitive sports.

Men's Track and field had a 9th place finish in the NCAAs which is one of their top finishes in a while. Still work to be done to get into elite status but a strong showing. CDC seems proud but knows even better results are to be expected.

Updated above to reflect Women's Track and Field finishing 10th at the NCAAs.

John Bianco (Associate AD) summed up this year in the following tweet. Update the 10 top 10 finishes to 11 based on Womens T&F finish.
