It was quite the extended weekend for Port Arthur Memorial standout cornerback Kary Vincent. The four-star prospect made his way to Austin for the UIL State Track & Field Championships and things could not have gone much better.

On Thursday, Vincent spent some time in the UT football offices in what he described as a very productive visit. On Saturday, he went out and claimed the gold in the Class 6A 200 meters dash.

Key quote:"It was actually reallygreat," Vincent said. "It was my first time meeting coach (Charlie) Strong. I got to see a lot of the campus I'd never seen before. We went in depth about me, not as much about Texas, we just talked about me as a player, the recruiting process. Coach Strong is a great guy to talk to and a mentor. I hope to get back there soon."

Neither Vincent nor UT in a rush: The Longhorns are a team that is high on Vincent's list, but the Port Arthur Memorial speedster said he's not in a rush to make a decision. In talking things over with the Texas coaches, Vincent said he and the UT staff are on the same page.

"(Strong) let me k now what he thought of me as a player and a person. He let me know no rush as far as me ever committing," Vincent said. "I don't have to worry about everything. He doesn't worry about other coaches who might pressure me. He said no matter what, tomorrow, next week, three months from now, whenever I want to come to Texas I can come to Texas."

Upcoming plans: With the Texas visit in the books, Vincent will next up take an unofficial visit to LSU this weekend.

The 5-11, 175-pound Vincent hasn't yet put out a formal list of favorites, but he plans to release a top-10 in the near future. The Longhorns should make that cut.

"I believe they will," Vincent said when asked about UT's chances after last weekend's visit.

Where Texas fits in: As mentioned above, Vincent has not yet finalized his favorites, but he has told Orangebloods.com in the past that Texas was "right in the mix" and his childhood favorite.

I asked Vincent if Thursday's visit helped UT's chances.

"It definitely did," Vincent said.
