Several UT targets were on hand for today's Under Armour camp in Houston and OB was on hand to get some updates.
We'll have more from these guys and others in the coming days, but here are some quick-hitter notes on the guys I spoke with ...
--- B.J. Foster didn't work out as he continues to recover from a knee injury, but he was on hand as a spectator. Foster told me not much has changed since he visited UT in late February, but he did tell me he'll be back in Austin next weekend (March 25) for a UT visit.
--- Houston Lamar DB D'Shawn Jamison plans to release a top five later this summer, but he told me Texas and TCU are his top two. He plans to be in Austin for the Longhorns' spring game on April 15.
--- I wrote in the War Room last week that Texas needed to get Houston Heights DB Jalen Green on campus soon, and Green said he'll be at the Longhorns' practice this weekend. He said he may come back for the Horns' spring game as well.
Green is taking things slowly and said he doesn't want to commit until National Signing Day, but said Texas is one of the top schools he'll consider.
--- 2019 OL Kardell Thomas remains committed to LSU, but he said the Longhorns are number two on his list. He visited for UT's junior day and was really impressed, and said he'll be back on campus for the Texas spring game.
--- Tight end Malcolm Epps visited Texas the Sunday after junior day and said he'll be back in Austin soon, possibly for UT's spring game.
Epps doesn't have a list of favorites, but said if he had a top five, Texas would definitely be in it.
The Spring Dekany prospect flashed the Hook'Em sign when he saw me taking his picture, and wore a UT bracelet.
--- A bit of a wildcard name to file away ... tight end Glenn Beal. The River Ridge (La.) John Curtis prospect has a pretty nice early offer list (Alabama, LSU, A&M, Georgia, Miami, etc). He told me he hasn't heard from Texas but said he hopes that changes.
"Of course," Beal said when I asked if he'd have an interest. "I love Texas."
--- DB Anthony Cook looked the part of a five-star prospect in one-one-ones. Cook is ultra-physical and did a good job throughout the day despite not being allowed to play press coverage, which is where he's most comfortable.
Cook will be at UT's spring game on April 15 and the Longhorns are still a major player in this one. The Texas coaches have told Cook he has a chance to really get things rolling if he would commit early, and while Cook is planning to wait things out, it sounds like he does like UT's sales pitch.
"I think about it, but I feel like I have to take my time. I can’t just rush and commit to a school," Cook said.
--- Houston Lamar RB Ta'Zhawn Henry was hopeful a UT offer would come after his junior day visit. That didn't happen, but Henry said the Texas coaches have told him they'll be by this spring, and he's expecting an offer at that point. If Texas does offer, he said he'll be a Longhorn.
--- Tight end Mustapha Muhammad didn't work out much today (looked like he may have been nursing a tight hamstring or something). Texas has been talking to him about coming up on March 25 for a practice and he said he may attend.
The most interesting quote from Muhammad came when he talked about what he's looking for in a school.
"On the football side, they utilize the tight end position in the run game and pass game, somewhat pro-style offense," Muhammad said. "On the academic side, I'm interested in business, so I'm definitely looking for a strong business school."
Anyone know of a school that fits that profile?
--- Manvel DB Trent Gordon didn't work out since he's recovering from a strained hamstring. Gordin visited Texas the Sunday after UT's junior day and while an offer didn't come, he thinks he has a chance to pick one up in the future.
The four-star prospect holds more than 40 offers. Texas talked to him about the possibility of playing either safety or nickel.
--- Wide receiver Tommy Bush doesn't have a Texas offer and he said he hasn't talked to the UT coaches since his junior day visit. That would seem to indicate that the staff feels pretty good about its chances with some other top receivers on the board, probably guys like Brennan Eagles and Al'Vonte Woodard.
--- The following players earned invitations to play in the 2018 Under Armour All-America Game:
Tommy Bush – WR – Schertz Clemmons
Keondre Coburn – DL – Houston Westfield
Leon O’Neal – DB – Cypress Springs
Cole Smith – OL – Pontotoc (MS)
Jaylen Waddle – WR – Houston Episcopal
Al’vonte Woodard – WR – Houston Lamar
