Remembering April 19th

if you can tax billionairs why cant you tax the catholic church?.It has to be the richest institution in the world.
Good question and I’ll say this, I’m a church going God fearing individual but I am all for churches having their finances scrutinized just like the rest of us. A lot if not most churches are doing a lot more business than they are churching, it seems.

All this talk of cults got me wondering if cult members may be interested in setting up shop in a mobile home park in the Texas Hill Country? Seems one could procure fairly lucrative residual income by inviting one of those establishments to take up residence, we can even call it compound

Most of them are 501c3. How do you tax and tax exempt organization? LOL.

501c3's get plenty of scrutiny in their finances I promise.

I give moey to my church as part of our tithe. Our church has multiple community outreach programs that are funded through the tithe's of our congregation. We don't have a "parent church" or whatever you want to call it that we answer to.

So how does that work, if churches are no longer allowed to be 501c3? What does that look like when I give money to our community ministries?

I have no idea what the Catholic church does with their money. No clue. Maybe someone can enlighten me?

The smaller churches like yours are ok I’m sure for the most part its the ones that are part of a parent churches that give me problems.

I won’t name names but at one time I was attending a church that was part of a parent church and that whole scheme, power structure etc. and so, the Pastor was counseling a woman and as you guessed they started having an affair, both married. Now, no telling how long this mess had been going on and how long the elders were addressing the issue but the guy was there preaching on a Sunday and at some point during the week, he and the elders etc. decided he, his wife and family would just skip town and not have to face the congregation etc. And then come to find out, the church paid the guy a severance package.

You know a good post when you see one, unfortunately you’re one of the few on here that can claim that. The fact I’m sporting a meager 31% post to like ratio is truly a crime.

Yikes. Unfortunately, the is prevalent in churches. Churches are filled with human beings. As you know, being a Christian doesn't mean you are all of a sudden free of sin. The holy spirit should guide your decision making, but we are still of the flesh and falter. God has shown us grace and mercy anyway.

That turns a lot of folk off unfortunately because they say, why do I need saving? Well, multiple reasons. For one, your eternity. You either ackowledge God, His kingdom, Jesus, etc. or you don't. Another, what human being is without fault? What human being has gone through life without the help of anyone at any point in their lifetime? Who has walked this earth and not disappointed someone? Been prideful? Gluttonous? Vengeful? Etc.? Is anyone without fault? I only know one...Jesus.

Believe or not, that is your business. I certainly will not think less of you. There are plenty of wonderful people that do great things for others that are athiest/agnostic. And unfortunately, there are plenty of people saved by grace that hurt others either knowingly or unknowingly. The one constant is that one God sent the Father's Son to be a living sacrifice and ascend to heaven to show those that believe a way to eternity with God.

Hopefully this doesn't get the thread locked because it is "religion" but I think you and I can speak objectively and without anger Bell. I'm truly sorry if this thread gets locked Bell, :)

It hurts me when I have to put a "like" on a post that is frankly...telling the truth about Texas, but I will. This does not alter the fact that OU still sucks....

dyk that the Catholic church has the largest membership of any church in the world?

They have their own nation Vatican City it's a few blocks in downtown Rome. It's the smallest country in the world but it's one of the richest.

Without question it's the richest and most powerful religion in the world.

And always remember the Pope is going to be one of the 5 most powerful men in the world. It was Pope Francis who built the bridge to reestablish diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba.

My man, you’re not telling me anything I don’t know. It’s unfortunate and I’m sorry about that. You aren’t the only one unfortunately. But you don’t become a sinner when you become a Christian and you certainly don’t become perfect either. We all fall short. We all let others down one time or another. Anyone that claims otherwise is not being honest.

Do your thing my man!

i know all of that. I was more speaking in reference to their finances. I don’t know what they spend their money on.

I disagree with the Catholic Church on just about everything

When churches start installing a drive through Starbucks, we've officially jumped the shark. When a preacher owns a private jet, we've reached peak stupidity.

Jesus wore rope sandals and hung out with lepers and alleged "whores". He didn't own a Gulfstream 5.
