The 39th president died yesterday at age 100 the longest longest living president. Lived almost 44 years after he left office. An educated man, graduated from Annapolis commanded one of the first nuclear submarines admiral Hyman Rickover, considered the father of the nuclear navy was a mentor. He left the navy to take over his father's peanut farm. He was very successful and then entered public office.

He was elected governor of Georgia and became potus in 1976. It was the first time I was eligible to vote and did so enthusiastically. He was educated and he was ready. But by 1980 everything went wrong. Inflation rose dramatically. The democratic party was torn up by dissension. But the worst of all was the Iranian hostage crisis. It started when Carter admitted the shah into the us for cancer treatment. A few days later a bunch of Iranian students captured the US embassy and took hostages. There was the bungled rescue attempt. It lasted literally to the last day of Carter's presidency. He did have some achievements the camp David accords with Egypt and Israel. He was a smart, disciplined, hard working man but not a good president.

But after he left office he did his greatest work. It's not well know but he worked to eradicate guinea worm. Habitat for humanity, monitoring elections, going to North Korea and so much more. He was standoffish with some former presidents especially Clinton. And considering their differences in lifestyles its not hard to understand why. But here's to a good man and a great humanitarian.

RIP
Jimmy Carter

I'll concede the fact that he was evidently a decent human being and that he made a real impact on the world after office. As far as him being President, I'll practice my Mom's mantra of "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything".
