We didn't touch on it much in the War Room since we did a chat, but offensive lineman Rafiti Ghirmai will announce his decision on Monday.
Ghirmai is down to five schools - Texas, Florida, Alabama, Michigan and UCLA. The Firsco Wakeland product had been considering LSU but dropped them recently.
Depending on who you listen to, Ghirmai was a one-time Alabama lean, then LSU, then Texas, then (now?) UCLA. I've long-believed that Texas was the team to beat and would eventually win out, but a couple recent trips to UCLA and the timing of his commitment (he announced his commitment date a couple days after his last UCLA visit) did have me second-guessing myself a little bit.
The 6-5, 285-pound Ghirmai would be a big pick-up for Texas if for no other reason than the Longhorns need to secure a few OL commitments and it's a down year in the state. Ghirmai, a three-star prospect, is ranked No. 45 on the LSR.
This one is pretty much down to Texas and UCLA, and I still feel good that the Longhorns are in the lead spot in this one with Ghirmai's decision a little more than 48 hours out. Should Texas land Ghirmai, he'd be the second OL commit of the class (joining Reese Moore) and the Horns' 18th commitment overall. Amazingly, he'd be UT's fourth commitment of the month of August, which is actually a dead period.
